artists and makers open their homes over three weekends
from 19 August for the Lewes Artwave festival.
Nearby Ditchling Museum has an internationally renowned
collection of work from artists and craftspeople who were drawn
to the village from the beginning of the 20th Century, whilst the
17th Century Monks’ House, once the home of Virginia Woolf, is
located in the beautiful country lanes of Rodmell.
Or enjoy world class opera at internationally recognised
Glyndebourne nearby famed for its lavish picnics outside on the
lawns complete with full evening dress and candelabras.
Steeped in history
Wander the Twittens and discover the
town’s most famous landmark, Lewes
Castle and breathe in 1,000 years of
history, or explore the beautiful Medieval
timber house which was bequeathed to
Henry VIII’s fourth wife – Anne of Cleves
and take afternoon tea.
Have a bite to eat in one of the historic
pubs and sample traditional cask ales from
the Victorian Harveys Brewery located in
the town – you may even be lucky enough
to see the horse-drawn dray.
