views to sea. Hidden away below at Holywell are the secret
Italian Gardens. These secluded, lawned gardens sit in a
wooded amphitheatre carved out of the cliff face above
Holywell beach. On a balmy Summer’s evening these
gardens provide a beautiful setting for open air theatre.

Historic gardens
Overlooked by an historic circular dovecote,
Motcombe Gardens in Eastbourne’s Old Town is
home to a statue of Neptune standing guard over
the source of the stream or bourne which gave our
town its name. Close by lies Manor Gardens with
its 18th Century thatched Hermitage, fragrant
rose garden and herbaceous borders. Stroll
through the vast lawns of adjoining Gildredge
Park, with tennis courts, immaculate bowling
greens and cute café.
