ALUMINIUM BRONZES
CW307G - CuAl10Ni5Fe4 - AB4S
Applications
Marine and agitator shafts
Marine fittings and ship armatures
Internal components of high-pressure
fittings and hydraulic valves with the
highest pressure ratings
Helical and worm wheels
Gibs
Pump shafts*
Heat exchanger components
Properties
High tensile and fatigue strength with high toughness also at elevated temperatures (400 °C).
Good corrosion resistance to neutral and acid aqueous solutions as well as sea water.
Good resistance to scaling, erosion and cavitation.
Good thermal and electrical conductivity.
Good antifriction properties at low running speeds with high loads, in particular for thermal stress
and wear.
Cost-effective due to small machining allowances and tolerances, in particular for drawn/extruded
products.
Very low scrap allowance required.
No perceptible loss of impact strength at temperatures up to - 196 °C.
Processing
1. Hot forming:
ABS alloys can easily be forged. For this purpose the material should be uniformly heated to
940 - 980 °C. The temperatures should not exceed 980°C and not fall below 800 °C. The stress relief
annealing temperature is 680 °C. The forgings should be air cooled in still air. Subsequent heat
treatment is not necessary. The alloys are not suitable for cold forming.
2. Welding, brazing and soldering:
The alloys can be satisfactorily welded in the MIG or WIG arc welding process using electrodes of the
same material and direct current. Resistance welding is possible.
For brazing, special flux containing fluoride and low melting point silver solder (approx. 650 °C) should
be used. For soldering, a flux of a solution of phosphoric acid in water is recommended. Pre-plating with
copper facilitates this process.
3. Mechanical processing:
The alloys can be processed like steel of the same strength.
Advantages are: Hard metal P 30, cutting angle 0°; rough machining: specific cutting speed
vc = 100 - 150 m/min, feed f = 0.2 - 0.4 mm/rotation; finishing: vc = 200 - 250 m/min, s = 0.05 - 0.10 mm.
For drilling, a one-side ground twist drill (0.1 - 0.2 mm) that is sufficiently cooled using a drilling emulsion.
When thread cutting, a good lubri-cant should be used. A high surface quality can be obtained by
grinding and diamond cutting. If during processing a grain change occurs, then in critical cases before
the finishing operation, stress relief annealing for one hour at 350 °C can be carried out.
These high-strength aluminium bronzes are classified as "High-End" materials, exhibit outstanding
mechanical properties due to the new production processes for cast billets, and are a further
development of the conventional aluminium bronzes.
Processing method
Applications:
 tools for bending
 deep-drawing tools
 slide bearings
Contrary to conventional casting processes, during
spray forming a metal melt is atomized via an inert gas
into fine droplets (60µ) onto a rotating substrate and then
compacted before completely solidifying.
Due to the rapid cooling no segregation takes place and
the structure remains fine grained with good working
properties.
Applications
Forming tools, deep-drawing tools, slide bearings
During the manufacturing process high
machining properties are achieved, which lead
to improved smooth cut edges and surfaces.
The excellent corrosion resistance of the alloy is the result of the general corrosion resistance of copper
in conjunction with aluminium, which rapidly forms an oxide film. Surface damage automatically
disappears.
CC483K - CuSn12-C
Belonging to the group of copper-tin cast alloys,
this material has, apart from good antifriction
properties, the highest wear resistance of the
coninuous casting materials.
Due to the high tin content CuSn12-C is harder
than CuSn7Zn4Pb7-C, which should be consiered
when selecting the shaft material.
CARODUR -2
®
CARODUR is a beryllium-free alloy on a CuNiSi
basis which is not harmful to the environment
and suitable for thermosetting.
®
CARODUR -alloys are characterized by their
out-standing cold and hot forming ductility,
excellent corrosion resistance and resistance to
atmos-pheric corrosion as well as their
indifference to stress corrosion cracking. Due to
the could forming the material is strengthened
and this process combined with a termosetting
CARODUR -alloys have good cold forming and excellent hot forming qualities. The recommended
condition for semi-finished products that are further processed by cold forming, depend on type and
extent of shaping and the demands upon the finished products. Therefore the requested conditions can
be pressed and capable of hardening or drawn and capable of hardening. For hot forming we
recommend the pressed condition. The processing temperature is approximately 880 - 900°C.
The hardened condition is highly recommended for machining. If the parts are formed first and than
mechanically treated, it is most appropriate to do the thermosetting stage after the forming and before
the cutting treatment.
NICKELOUS ALLOYS
Hardening
During the hardening process, the values for tensile strength, yield strength, hardness and conductivity
will increase. We therefore recommend discussing the hardening temperature with our technical experts
(guide value approx. 450°C). When you use "hardened" materials, you should not perform any thermal
treatment.
Technical Data
Sintered bearings /
CARINT
according to ISO 2795, we keep a wide range of
products in stock; and parts according to other
standards are produced upon request.
Designation:
®
CARINT -Sinter bronze
Alloy: Copper-Tin (CuSn)
Density: 5,8 kg/dm³ mind.
Expansion coefficient: 19 . 10 1/K
Pore volume: 20 - 30 %
Recommended wave tolerance: f7
Standard oil impregnation: Inhibitory mineral oil approximately 55 cP at 50°C
Properties: very low friction coefficient and good corrosion resistance
Admissible loads
The admissible load of a plain bearing bush depends on:
the circumferential speed of the shaft
other operating conditions such as: adequate heat dissipation / additional lubrication
Running speed u
Usual load capacity of CARINT sinter bronze
plain bearing bushes
The load capacity curve shown can not be
extrapolated to higher or lower speeds.
In the case of very low speeds the formation of
the oil film is defective and the working
conditions are less favourable.
For higher speeds heat dissipation by aditional
lubrication is required.
www.caro-prometa.de
The opposite diagram gives a survey on the usual loading
capacity as a function of the running speed.
The admissible bearing pressure p results from the quotient of
bearing force F and the projected bearing running surface =
length b by bore diameter d of the bearing bush.
p =
F
b . d
In the event of missing heat removal, it is difficult to specify the
admissible load by means of curves or formulas.
A particular examination is necessary:
 for bearings with oscillating movement
 for bearings with self-rotating bush
 if heat dissipation is hindered

Operating temperature Tolerances CARINT slide bearings
®
Our standard oil type permits an operating range
of CARINT bearing bushes up to temperatures
of 80°.
All data mentioned are subject to alteration and
are without obligation. We reserve the right to
make modifications. Due to the variety of
unrecognisable operating conditions that cannot
be influenced, any liability for suitability must be
excluded.
Machining
If necessary, CARINT-sintered
bearings can be further processed.
For machining purposes we recommend the following (without coolant)
Cutting Speed 80 - 150 m/min
Advance Roughing 0,2 - 0,3 mm
Smoothing 0,0 - 0,1 mm
Cutting depth Roughing up to 2,5 mm
Smoothing 0,1 - 0,5 mm
The tolerances of the bushes correspond to ISO
2795. For assembly an m5 arbor press is used.
If the location hole of the rigid bearing housing
has the tolerance H7, after assembly the bush
inside diameter also shows the tolerance H7.
Service und Know-How
General conditions of sale
I. Validity, offers
1. These general conditions of sale apply to all even future contracts with companies and legal representatives under public law,
and fund assets for deliveries and other services governed by public law under inclusion of contracts for services and the delivery of
non-representable items. For third party deals, the conditions of the price list of the commissioned delivering factory apply in full.
The buyer's purchasing conditions are not recognised where we expressly dispute this after receipt.
2. Our offers are non-binding. Verbal agreements, confirmations, warranties and guarantees from our employees, in relation to the
agreement of the contract, will only be binding following our written confirmation.
3. The incoterms in their latest version are definitive for the interpretation of commercial clauses in doubt.
II. Prices
1. In the absence of other agreements, the prices and conditions of our valid price list apply upon the agreement of the contract.
2. Should there be a change in charges or other extraneous costs included in the agreed price later than four weeks after the
contract is agreed, or should new ones arise, we are entitled to make a change to the prices in the appropriate range.
III. Payment and invoicing
1. In the absence of other agreements or stipulations in our invoices, the purchase price is due immediately following delivery,
without deduction of a discount and in such a way that we have access to the funds on the due date. Any payment charges are due
to the purchaser. The purchaser may only withhold payment or offset an amount where a counterclaim is undisputed or legally
determined.
2. Where the payment date is exceeded and at the latest from the date of the default, we calculate interest at a rate of 8 percentage
points over the base rate, unless higher interest rates have been agreed. We reserve the right to impose further late payment
charges.
3. The purchaser is in default at the latest 10 days after the due date of our account, without receipt of a reminder.
4. If it becomes apparent after the contract is agreed, that our claim to payment is at risk due to the purchaser's lack of ability to pay,
or should the purchaser fall into default of payments to a significant sum or should other circumstances arise, which may lead to a
considerable worsening of the ability of the purchaser to pay, then we have recourse to the laws from § 321 BGB the Civil Code
(“objection of uncertainty”). We are also entitled to make due any accounts not yet due in the ongoing business relationship with the
purchaser.
5. An agreed discount only relates to the value of the invoice excluding carriage and assumes the complete settlement of all due
debts by the purchaser within the time frame of the discount. In the absence of any other agreement, discounts commence from the
date of the invoice.
IV. Execution of deliveries, delivery deadlines and schedules
1. Our obligation to deliver is made upon the condition of correct and timely delivery to our company, unless the incorrect or delayed
delivery to ourselves is our fault.
2. Details of delivery times are approximate. Delivery deadlines begin on the date of our order confirmation and are only valid on the
assumption of correct clarification of all details of the order and timely fulfilment of all duties of the purchaser, such as production of
all official certification and accreditation and guarantees or deposits.
3. The time of despatch from the factory or warehouse is definitive for maintaining delivery deadlines and schedules. They are valid
as having being maintained upon notification of the readiness to despatch, if the goods cannot be despatched on time due to fault
on our part.
4. In the event of delivery delays, the purchaser may set us a reasonable period of grace and once this has lapsed, may resign from
the contract since the contract has not been fulfilled. In such cases, compensation is agreed according to extract X of these
conditions.
V. Retention of title
1. All goods delivered remain our property (retained goods) up to fulfilment of all accounts, particularly any account balance
payments due to us within the context of the business relationship (retained balance). This also applies to future and conditional
accounts, e.g. change of acceptor and also if payments are made on specially identified accounts. This retained balance expires
definitively with the settlement of all accounts ascertained to be still open and within this retained balance.
2. Processing of retained goods is carried out for us as a manufacturer in the sense of § 950 of the Civil Code, without obligation on
our part. The processed goods are classed as retained goods in the sense of No. 1. For processing, compounding and mixing of
retained goods with other goods by the purchaser, we claim co-ownership of the new goods in the proportion of the ratio of the
invoiced value of the retained goods to the invoiced value of the other goods used. Should our ownership expire through
compounding or mixing, then the purchaser assigns to us the ownership rights of the new stock pertaining to him in the range of the
invoiced value of the retained goods, and safeguards it for us without charge. Our co-ownership rights apply as retained goods in
the sense of No. 1.
3. The purchaser may only sell the retained goods in the usual course of business under his normal terms of business, and as long
as he is not in default, provided that the outstanding amounts from the re-sale according to Nos. 4 to 6 revert to us. He is not entitled
to any other provisions over the retained goods.
4. Accounts from the re-sale of retained goods are assigned to us, together with all securities that the purchaser acquires for the
account. They serve as security in the same range as the retained goods. Should the retained goods be sold by the purchaser with
other goods not sold by us, then the accounts from the re-sale will be assigned to us proportionate to the value of the invoice of the
retained goods in relation to the invoiced value of the other sold goods. For the re-sale of goods over which we have co-ownership
according to No. 2, a proportion corresponding to our co-ownership will be assigned to us.
www.caro-prometa.de
86
5. The purchaser is entitled to collect accounts from the re-sale. This authority to collect expires in the event of our cancellation, but
at the latest upon the default of payment, non-payment of a bill or claim at the opening of an insolvency procedure. We will then
avail ourselves of our right to cancel, if it is apparent at the conclusion of the contract, that our payment claim is threatened by this or
by other contracts with the purchaser through their lack of ability to pay. At our request the purchaser is obliged to inform his buyer
immediately of the assignment to us and to give us the documents required for the collection.
6. The purchaser must inform us immediately of seizure or other interference by a third party. The purchaser bears all costs
incurred in redressing the seizure or for re-transportation of the retained goods, provided that these are not paid by the third party.
7. Should the purchaser fall into payment default or does not settle a payment when due, we are entitled to take back the retained
goods and to enter the purchaser's premises for this purpose, if necessary. This also applies if, after the contract is agreed, our
demand for payment from this contract or from other contracts with the purchaser is at risk due to their inability to pay. Recovery
does not represent cancellation of the contract. Provisions under the insolvency regulations remain unaffected.
8. Should the invoice value of the existing securities exceed the verified accounts, including additional amounts (interest rates,
costs, etc.) in total, by more than 50 percent, we are obliged at the request of the purchaser to release the securities of our choice.
Vl. Quality, weights and measures
1. Quality and measures are ascertained according to the DIN-/EN standards that apply to this contract agreement and/or data
sheets, in the absence of any others according to trade use. Reference to standards, data sheets or factory test certification as well
as details of quality, measures, weights and application are not procurement details, warranties or guarantees, and nor are
declarations of conformity, manufacturer declarations and appropriate indicators such as CE and GS.
2. For weights, the weighing undertaken by us or our own suppliers is definitive. Weight is proven through submission of a weight
docket. Provided that this is admissible in law, weights can be conveyed according to standards without weighing. The usual
surcharges and discounts (commercial weights) for the non-ferrous metals semi-finished product trade in the Federal Republic
remain unaffected. In the despatch note, details of the number of items, grouped items, etc. are non-binding according to the
weight of the calculated goods. As long as no individual weighing normally ensues, the total weight of the shipment applies.
Differences with regard to the calculable individual weights will be distributed proportionately within this.
3. Deviations from the agreed weight of partial and total amounts are allowed up to 10%.
VII. Removal
1. When removal is agreed, this may only be carried out by the originating factory and/or our warehouse, immediately following
confirmation of the readiness to remove. The personal removal costs are borne by the purchaser and the material removal costs
will be calculated for him according to our price list or the price list of the originating factory.
2. Should the removal take place through no fault of ours, or it is not on time or not complete, we are entitled to despatch the goods
without removal or to store them at the cost and risk of the purchasers, and to charge him.
VIII. Despatch, transfer of risk, packaging and partial delivery
1. We determine the route and means of despatch as well as the carrier or haulier. Goods recorded as ready for despatch
according to the contract must be retrieved immediately, otherwise we are entitled to despatch them after a reminder at the
expense and risk of the purchaser as we choose or they may be stored and invoiced immediately at our own discretion.
2. If through no fault of our own, transportation via the route arranged or at the planned place at the planned time is impossible or
seriously impaired, then we are entitled to deliver via another route or at another place; and the costs arising are borne by the
purchaser. The purchaser will be given the opportunity to comment in advance.
3. With the handover of the goods to a carrier or haulier, but at the latest once it has left the warehouse or delivering factory, the risk
for all business including requisition even for carriage free and free delivery, is borne by the purchaser. We are responsible for
insurance only at the instruction and expense of the purchaser. Responsibility and costs for unloading are assumed by the
purchaser.
4. The goods are unpackaged and are not delivered protected against corrosion. If this is normal for the trade then we deliver
packaged. We provide packaging, protection and/or transportation aids based on our experience at the expense of the purchaser.
They will be taken back into our warehouse. We do not assume the purchaser's costs for return transportation or for their own
waste disposal.
5. We are entitled to make partial deliveries of a reasonable scope. Over and under-deliveries of an amount that is normal for the
industry are permitted.
IX. Liability for material defects
1. Material defects must be notified immediately, and at the latest seven days from the despatch date in writing. Material defects
which cannot be detected even with the most careful checking within this period, must be notified in writing with immediate
justification of any processing immediately after discovery, and at the latest before the course of the agreed or legal limitation
period.
2. For justifiable claims within the permitted timeframe, we may make good the defect or deliver defect-free goods (re-delivery), as
we see fit. For failure or refusal to re-deliver, the purchaser may resign from the contract a reasonable time after the unsuccessful
procedure or may reduce the purchase price. If the defect cannot be rectified or the goods are already sold, processed or reformed,
he has the right to a reduction.
3. Costs associated with re-delivery are assumed by us only inasmuch as for an individual case, they are reasonable in relation to
the purchase price. Expenses arising from sold goods being at a place other than the agreed place of delivery, are not borne by us,
unless these correspond to the purchaser's contractual usage.
4. After the agreed removal of the goods by the purchaser, there are no grounds for a claim for material defects, which can be
determined at the agreed means of removal. If the purchaser remains unaware of a fault as a result of negligence, he may only
apply these defects if we have deliberately not revealed the defect or have assumed a guarantee for the quality of the item.
www.caro-prometa.de
5. If the purchaser does not immediately give us the opportunity to satisfy ourselves of the material defect, or particularly if he does
not immediately make the faulty goods or samples available for test purposes, all rights with regard to the material defect are
rescinded.
6. For goods that are sold as declassified material, the purchaser does not have the rights, which he would otherwise have with
regard to the detailed reasons for declassification and defects. There is no liability for material defects with the sale of declassified
goods.
7. Purchaser recourse claims against us, according to § 478 of the Civil Code are limited to the legal scope of the third party defect
claims applicable to the purchaser, and presuppose that the purchaser meets the claim obligation incumbent upon him with regard
to us, according to § 377 of the Commercial Code.
X. General limitation of liability and limitation of claims
1. In the event of breach of contractual and non-contractual obligations, particularly due to impossibility, delay, fault in initiating the
contract and illicit trading, we are liable also with regard to our management employees and other agents only in cases of
premeditation and gross negligence, limited to defects envisaged at the time of agreement of the contract as typical of the
contract. For the rest, we are not liable, even for defects and damage arising from defects.
2. These limitations do not apply for culpable breach of significant contractual duties, insofar as the achievement of the purpose of
the contract is at risk, for culpably induced damage to life, limb and health, nor insofar as we have assumed the guarantee for the
quality of the goods sold, as well as in cases of compulsory liability according to product liability law. The rules of the burden of
proof remain unaffected by this.
3. In the absence of any other agreement, claims caused by us arising against us by the purchaser and in connection with the
delivery, come under the statute of limitation of one year after delivery of the goods. This period also applies to those goods used
for construction works according to their normal application and to which defects have been caused, unless this application has
been agreed in writing. Our liability with regard to premeditated and grossly negligent breaches of duty, culpably induced damage
to life, limb and health as well as statutory limitation of recourse claims, according to §§ 478, 479 of the Civil Code, remains
unaffected by this.
XI. Place of delivery, juris diction and applicable law
1. The place of delivery for our deliveries is the originating factory for deliveries from the factory and for other deliveries, our
warehouse Our chosen juris diction is Düsseldorf or the head office of the purchaser.
2. For all legal matters between us and the purchaser, in addition to these conditions, German non-unified law applies, and in
particular the Civil Code and Commercial Code. The provisions of the UN convention of 11th April 1980 on contracts for
international purchase of goods, are applied with the particular provision that our liability according to this is limited in accordance
with extracts IX and X.
