SELWYN TIMES
The Lincoln High School Senior A Girls Volleyball team
will be attending the New Zealand Secondary Schools
volleyball tournament in Palmerston North from the
18th to the 24th of March .
The 2018 team is a mixed group of experienced
and young players who are extremely talented and
committed to their chosen sport. The girls have been
training consistently twice a week since the start of the
school year and have made some excellent progress in
both their ability and coming together as a tight team.
The team competes in the Canterbury Volleyball Monday
night competition and have recently represented Lincoln
High School at both the South Island and Canterbury
championships, in which they have shown some
impressive improvement as well as achieving some
pleasing results.
In Palmerston North Lincoln High School will be
competing with 128 other girls’ teams and will be looking
to continue the schools proud history of performing
well at New Zealand’s largest secondary schools
sporting event. For four of the girls (Janie Watkins,
Bridget Allan, Mackenzie Pringle and Petra Campbell)
this will be their last opportunity to participate at the
national tournament
and is something they
have been building and
training for over the past
5 years. For the other five
players (Morgan Davidson,
Jasmine Curtis, Ellen
Watts, Ella Jamieson and
Alli Kennedy), this will be
their first time representing Lincoln at the tournament
and no doubt will be a chance for them to learn what it
takes to compete with the best, whilst also striving to
send the older girls off on a positive and winning note.
The players and management are extremely grateful for
the assistance of all sponsors and supporters who have
supported them financially in their endeavours, without
their help, getting to the tournament would not be
possible.
