Farmers with a View / Fermerë me pamje nga deti

houses, and for younger kids, “dorm style” childcare could be organized in
larger houses. This would potentially guarantee paying guests in a house for
eight to ten weeks or more, continuously. Such a sustained investment would
allow for a more serious upgrade in infrastructure too. The camp would need
a home base. If a small investment could go to one of the empty school or
community buildings in a village, not only would they gain a central camp space
to host for the summer, but the village would gain a useful building the rest
of the year when the camp is over. This presents an interesting possibility for
community financing and community profit-sharing.
Who gets paid?
There could be a substantial amount of money to be spread around from a
kids camp that is charging fees to families who are financially comfortable.
Money would go directly to house owners who provide accommodations.
Money would also go directly to villagers who are capable of teaching, or
looking after the children. A local restaurant, café, or even villager could
be paid to provide meals every day, and snacks too. Money would be paid
for transport, cleaning/washing, etc. Some kind of large local space would
need to be rented out for the duration of the summer. If that is owned by the
village, the income could be used on upgrades and a general village fund.
What is needed?
There would need to be money spent to upgrade a central building before
the camp could start. Aside from that though, the camp would really only
use what already exists in the villages, most importantly, the knowledge
about traditions of the local people. The biggest need is of an organization
with the know-how to organize and operate the camp. They could be based
in Himarë or even Tirana, independent or through a school or other kind of
organization, like Cultural Heritage without Borders.
