School-Age & Early Childhood RegistrATIon informATIon
Every camper is special. We want to ensure
that every camper has a wonderful and
memorable experience at camp, and that
requires your help. Please carefully review the
information in this booklet, the information you
will receive after registration and information
that is sent home from camp. The registration
fee is non-refundable, and non-applicable to
camp tuition. The JCC is not responsible for
unintended, unforeseen absences. The JCC
reserves the right to cancel any camp for lack
of minimum enrollment; balances paid will be
transferred or refunded. You will be notified in
advance of any cancellations.
How to register
Use the appropriate registration form (starting
on page 9) and return it with the required
payment. Use one form per child. Once your
registration is received, other forms will be sent
to you, which must be completed and returned
at least two weeks before camp starts. Full
payment is due per the deadlines at right.
Deposit and billing
With each child’s registration form you must
include the following at minimum:
• $50 per week deposit
• $25 non-applicable, non-refundable
registration fee
Registration will not be considered without both
the deposit and the registration fee. Note: Mail
and billing will be sent to the child’s address.
The JCC accepts cash, checks and credit
cards. There will be no third party billing.
Sibling discount
A 2% discount will be credited for each child’s
camp tuition when more than one child from
a family attends at least one session in the
same camp (both in School-Age Camp or both
in ECDP Camp). This credit will be calculated
following the end of camp once all registration
changes are recorded. The credit can ONLY be
applied toward JCC Health, Physical Education
and Recreation (HPER) classes; ECDP; or
Children’s Programs (not including fundraisers
or membership). The credit must be used by
Dec. 31, 2018. If a sibling does not attend a
program for any reason, the credit will not be
given.
What tuition includes
Camp tuition includes materials, transportation
(School-Age Camps only), a camp T-shirt,
daily snacks, field trips and cookouts. Parents
will receive advance notice of special events
and optional program activities that require an
additional fee. Because camps are programmed
by session, campers who do not attend all five
days each week may miss field trips, special
programs and activities. Unfortunately, we are
unable to change or substitute days for which
a child has been registered to accommodate a
specific trip or event.
Scholarships/financial aid
Every child deserves a summer camp
experience. For that reason, the JCC offers a
limited number of scholarships for camps and
memberships. Scholarship applications must be
received by May 14, 2018. Please call the JCC
for a scholarship application.
Tax credits
The JCC’s summer day camps may qualify for a
childcare tax credit. Contact your tax advisor for
YachAD Program
Yachad, meaning “all together” in Hebrew, is
Camp Romano’s inclusion program for children
with special needs. It’s designed to create a
sense of community among all participants
and help Yachad campers develop feelings of
belonging and independence.
What do we do in Yachad?
• Provide a fun camp experience modified to
the camper’s needs.
• Provide additional trained support staff.
• Improve social interactions and social skills
among peers, and facilitate friendships.
• Make accommodations as necessary by
altering teaching methods without lowering
standards.
There will be no additional cost to enroll your
child in Camp Romano’s Yachad Program
provided our grant funding is renewed again
this year.
Is Yachad right for my child?
Because individual needs vary, the first step
is to see if our Yachad Program is a good fit
for your child. Please contact Amy Bisnett,
inclusion specialist, at 315-445-2040, ext. 122.
Space is limited, so don’t delay!
Bus TransporTATIon
Neighborhood bus transportation is included
in school-age camp tuition fees. See the
neighborhood bus routes at right for the stop
nearest you, and indicate the stop on your
registration form. Parents may drop off and pick
up their children at the JCC, as transportation is
not available in all areas. Transportation is not
available for ECDP campers and school-age
campers attending early and/or late care.
Neighborhood bus stops
We offer three routes—Syracuse/DeWitt,
Manlius and Fayetteville—that provide
neighborhood bus service for Nitzanim,
Specialty Camps and SyraCruisin’. Please find
the stop most convenient for you, and indicate it
on your camper’s application form. We cannot
accommodate door-to-door bus stops.
Stops may be eliminated for lack of pick-ups.
In the morning, the bus run begins at
approximately 8 a.m. and arrives at the JCC by
8:55 a.m. The stops on the list farthest away
from the JCC are picked up closer to 8 a.m.,
while the stops near the JCC are picked up
closer to 8:55 a.m. and the start of the camp
day. In the afternoon, the bus run begins shortly
after 4 p.m. and is finished by approximately
4:45 p.m. The bus route runs in reverse at this
time with the bus stops nearest to the JCC
dropped off shortly after 4 p.m. while the stops
farther from the JCC are dropped off closer to
4:45 p.m.
Please note that pick-up and drop-off times
may vary from week to week, with the gain or
loss of other campers on the route. We will
notify you the week prior to each session with
the approximate pick up and drop off times.
All routes end in the morning and begin in the
afternoon at the JCC. Of course, you have the
option of dropping off and/or picking up your
camper(s). We will make every effort to keep
the schedule running smoothly and on time.
General informATIon
Staff
Experienced early childhood professionals from
our school-year program and carefully selected
college students staff our camp groups. These
skilled, trained counselors care about children
and offer guidance, support, encouragement,
enthusiasm and love.
Schedule
Our camp activity schedules are based
on a five-day week. To accommodate
varying family needs, we allow campers to
choose to join us for fewer days in a week
on Tuesday and Thursday or Monday,
Wednesday and Friday. Campers that
choose these lesser time options will get
to experience a wide variety, but not all, of
the activities summer camp offers. Tenokia
have the extended full-day option only.
Important pick-up information for
9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. campers: If you also have
children attending the JCC’s School-Age Camp,
please come pick up your ECDP camper first by
3:45 p.m.
Groups
Children are placed according to chronological
age so that we can offer a developmentally
appropriate and safe program. Absolutely
no exceptions can be allowed. All programs
(except off-site field trips for Gesher and
Yeladim campers) are held at the JCC. Each
group has their own individual, air-conditioned,
brightly lit and developmentally equipped room
to utilize as their special indoor home base.
Following our licensing policies, our five unique
Early Childhood Camps are:
• Tenokia (meaning nursery) for campers
who will be 6-weeks old after 6/25/18.
• K’Ton Ton (meaning little ones) for toddlers
18-months old by 6/25/18.
• Chaverim (meaning friends) for campers
who will be 3-years old by 6/25/18.
• Yeladim (meaning children) for campers
who will be 4-years old by 6/25/18.
• Gesher (meaning bridge) for campers who
will be entering kindergarten in the fall.
Activities
Throughout the summer there are cookouts,
picnics, ice cream socials and other special
activities planned for your child. Camp groups
regularly have a friendship circle and each age
level joins to celebrate Shabbat on Fridays. All
children attending the Early Childhood Camps
K’Ton Ton, Chaverim, Yeladim and Gesher have
an opportunity to participate in daily activities,
which include:
• Art
• Sensory experiences
• Music and movement
• Outdoor active play
In addition, Camps K’Ton Ton, Chaverim and
Yeladim take time out each afternoon for nap
time. Camps K’Ton Ton, Chaverim, Yeladim and
