I’m working on a few projects at the<br />

moment, including pension briefings to<br />

all team members by the end of <strong>March</strong>, 1:1<br />

meetings (we call them coffee chats) with<br />

the departmental managers to discuss<br />

our upcoming engagement survey which<br />

begins on 12 <strong>March</strong>. We have an amazing<br />

score of 90.8% so we'll be talking about<br />

how we sustain or improve on this. I’m also<br />

auditing the personal information we keep<br />

in preparation for the new data protection<br />

regulations which come into force in May.<br />

One of my biggest projects is working with<br />

West Nottinghamshire College on the IHG<br />

Hotel Takeover Week which we’ve been<br />

planning since last October! The students<br />

have been hand-picked for the exercise<br />

and will be paired up with managers<br />

and team members in order to gain<br />

practical experience of operating a large,<br />

fully-functioning hotel to complement<br />

their classroom-based training. They will<br />

perform almost every role here at the hotel<br />

- we even have a new General Manager for<br />

the week!<br />

I’m going over to the College later for a<br />

photo shoot and to deliver an induction<br />

session to the 71 students taking part. It’s<br />

the first time we’ve ever been involved in a<br />

takeover and there is a lot of preparation<br />

but it’s so exciting too!<br />

In a typical week, I’ll spend my time<br />

working with a variety of issues and<br />

interesting people, I also spend time<br />

delivering training sessions at some of our<br />

other hotels.<br />

I love what I do and I get a lot of satisfaction<br />

out of seeing our team members grow<br />

in their roles and visibly enjoying what<br />

they do. I may not be in a typical revenue<br />

generating department but I believe my<br />

contribution to the hotel profit is through<br />

the engagement and performance of<br />

the team members directly delivering a<br />

fantastic experience to our guests.<br />

I am not the type of HR manager to ‘police’<br />

the hotel or stop people doing things, then<br />

again I’m not someone who just offers ‘tea<br />
