MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE “There are two great days in a person’s life – the day we are born and the day we discover WHY.” - William Barclay* learners during our first assemblies to discover the “WHY” in 2018 and would also like you as parents to focus on your “WHY” this year. We are already at the end of the first month of our academic year and I am sure that you all can pay witness to I would again like to refer to our excellent matric results of 2017: the real rat race in Gauteng. • 100% Pass I encouraged our staff and • 94% BD pass • 6% D pass • 50 grade 12s – 54 distinctions • Kiana Venter – 5 distinctions: in three subjects amongst the Top 1% of IEB candidates • Carmi de Jager – 5 distinctions • Ryno Theron – 4 distinctions: in one subject amongst the Top 1% of IEB candidates • Kristian Myburgh – 3 distinctions FEB 2018 PROUDLY DESIGNED BY SALES SQUAD 2
• Group average – 68% Our sincere appreciation and gratitude should go to our teachers and learners for their hard work in achieving this. Our high school opened its doors but within a few days fell victim to cable theft, which left us without electricity for almost two weeks. This posed quite a serious challenge with regard to the functionality of our server, the downloading of books and other computer-related issues. We are doing our utmost to catch up on the backlog of issues created by the power problems. The cafeteria at the high school still needs to be changed/upgraded to adhere to the original specifications of a cafeteria; only after this will we be able to make full use of this facility. This is a priority and as such will only be operational in term 2. Although the area at the netball and tennis courts at the high school has been allocated for our swimming pool, there is a delay with the moving of the water pipeline and, thus, the pool only forms part of phase two (2019). The construction of the cricket nets (next to the cafeteria) at the high school is nearing completion now. New grass has been planted in the area next to the fence on the sports field; therefore, the lay-out of the athletics track for our inter-house was only temporarily done. The surveyor will be visiting the school in due course to determine the final lay-out of our sports field. Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to reschedule our official opening of the high school and this will now take place on 19 April 2018. I am awaiting the proposed plans for the roof/cover of our pavilion at the primary school in order for me to determine the costs involved in erecting this. The cover at our pavilion and the completion of the primary school hockey field is a priority, and I hope to have positive feedback regarding this in weeks to come. Ablution facilities at our primary school sports field is also an area of great need, which we can hopefully address in 2018.
