Managers need to date
their female artistes

MUSIC PRODUCER Mark
Okraku-Mantey is of the opinion
that artiste managers need
to date their female clients to
have a successful working relationship.
He believes that it is about
the only way a manager can
safeguard his investments.
“I’m talking based on the environment
as in Ghana. Some
man will sit in his house and
take decisions for you because
you have invested in his wife
and he will call the shots…”explained
Okraku-Mantey to Andy
Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on
Hitz FM.
“And because your money is
in there, you will conform
whether it will help your investment
or not or else the man will
say she won’t work with the
manager anymore.”
The head of the Creative
Arts Council claims, however, in
his two decades of working in
the Ghanaian music industry, he
has never been involved in a romantic
relationship with any of
the female artistes he has
worked with.
In December 2017, artiste
Manager, BullDog was at the receiving
end of stinging criticism
for making just about the same
comments.
“Primarily, if you want to
manage a female artiste successfully,
you have to be in a relationship,
an emotional
relationship and a sexual relationship
with the artiste.” explained
BullDog to Andy Dosty
on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
He claimed that being in relationship
with a female artiste as
a male manager creates a bond,
making work easier. “You won’t
succeed if you don’t do that,”
adds BullDog.
He advised married men
against managing female artistes
because it might destroy their
marriage: “I won’t encourage a
married man to be managing a
female artiste because he might
ruin his marriage.”
Songstress Efya slammed the
statement calling it ridiculous.
“I think it’s ridiculous for an
artiste manager to say that. It is
ridiculous for him to suggest
this,” said the ‘Until The Dawn’
crooner on A1 radio in Bolgatanga.
“We are here to make money
not boyfriends so we at all times
separate business from relationship
because it’s the business
that has to be sustained. Relationships
can break anytime so
the perception that you need to
date your manager before you
can be successful in music is
ridiculous.”

Vendy produces
movie ‘Hours
to Graduate’

ASAMOAH, a
nineteen-yearold
level 200
student of the
Ghana Institute
of Journalism has produced
her first movie titled
‘Hours to Graduate’.
In an interview with the
DAILY HERITAGE, she
said she was inspired by her
mother to write the movie
and she looks up to Shirley
Frimpong Manso because
of how she carries herself
in the movie industry and
how good her movies are.
The budding movie producer
and script writer said,
“I wrote this movie when I
completed Senior High
School at Methodist Girls,
Mamfe. I was encouraged to
write this by my mother
since I used to write for the
school’s magazine. I love
this movie, it talks about
everything on our campuses,
and the movie is for
everyone not only students.”

The movie, which talks
about what happens on tertiary
campus, captures the
life of a final year student
who is just about wrapping
up the four year academic.
The movie is yet to be
shown in various campuses
across the country. Vendy
entreats all students to go
and watch when it is being
premiered on their various
campuses.
The movie featured
some great talents like Jess
Haddarah of Bambini show,
Michelle and Ishmael
among others. It was directed
by Kwabena Nyadu.
“I take it in a positive way…
For people to make that comparison
then it should tell you where
you are. I am worried more about
people who care about me, not
what is said about me…I am
more worried about family members
who broke down over the Illuminati
tag and it got to them.”
In 2013, he released a song titled
‘Illuminati’ aimed at dispelling
rumours making the
rounds that he was a part of the
secret society.
The visuals of the song were
shot in Dubai by Phamous
Philms. It had the phrase ‘don’t
judge a man negatively by his success;
we all have 24 hours in a
day’ written at the end.
The rapper wondered why
people swear he is a member of
the secret society when he openly
praises God, and was raised in a
Christian home.
The Illuminati is a name given
to several groups, both real and
fictitious. Historically, the name
usually refers to the Bavarian Illuminati,
an Enlightenment-era secret
society founded on 1 May
1776. The society’s goals were to
oppose superstition, obscurantism,
religious influence over public
life, and abuses of state power.
