true to the original music while updating the score with several
new songs. Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle,
a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken
prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends
the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s
hideous exterior and realise the kind heart and soul of the true
Prince within.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Groundhog Day

Phil Connors is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the
annual Groundhog Day festivities. But on his way out of town, Phil
is caught in a giant blizzard, which he failed to predict, and finds
himself stuck in small-town hell. Just when things couldn’t get any
worse, Phil wakes the next morning to find it’s Groundhog Day all
over again… and again… and again.
Singin’ in the Rain

Surely there is nothing left to say about Singin’ in the Rain! It is
almost universally regarded as the greatest movie musical of all
time, Gene Kelly stars as a Hollywood legend of the silent era,
who finds his career jeopardized when he and his shrill-voiced
leading lady must appear in a talkie together, but it is the musical
numbers and Kelly’s breathtaking choreography which elevate
Singin’ in the Rain to “must see” status.
The Lego Batman Movie

Following the success of 2014 smash hit The Lego Movie,
everything is still, very much, awesome with The Lego Batman
Movie! A cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne must deal with the ALL
of the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City, while also
discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan
who wished to become his sidekick. Crackling with the same
childlike joy that made its predecessor such a treat, The Lego
Batman Movie is certainly the funniest Batman movie in a long
time and possibly one of the most enjoyable as well.
Labyrinth

A cult favorite directed by visionary Jim Henson, Labyrinth is both
a stirring fairy tale and a wonder of puppetry. Teenager Sarah
(Jennifer Connelly), stuck babysitting her baby brother Toby,
angrily wishes that goblins from her favorite book The Labyrinth
will come take him away. When her wish comes true, Sarah must
head into the Labyrinth herself, battle Jareth the Goblin King, and
save Toby.
La Belle et La Bête

“One of the most magical of all films” is how legendary film
critic Roger Ebert described the Jean Cocteau fantasy film which
inspired Hollywood’s fascination with the beautiful Belle, and her
Beast. You know the story, a beautiful young woman takes her
father’s place as the prisoner of a mysterious beast who wishes to
marry her. Now you can see the classic French masterpiece, which
first brought Belle to the big screen, presented under the stars, in
all its opulent, baroque glory.

When The Sound of Music was released in 1965 it took the world
by storm, earning five Oscars. For millions of people ever since, it
is the rare combination of a powerful and moving story, soaring
music, and breathtaking scenery. The film tells the story of Maria
(Julie Andrews), who takes a job as governess to the Von Trapp
family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in
love with the children and their widowed father, Captain von
Trapp. When he is ordered by the Nazis to accept a commission in
the German navy, he and Maria decide to flee from Austria with
the children.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

City nearing the end of a global study of fantastic beasts. Disaster
strikes when some of Newt’s collected beasts get loose in a city

one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by

<strong>Festival</strong>s across the world. We are proud to be partnering with
India Unboxed to bring great indian films to both <strong>Movies</strong> on the
Meadows and the <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> in October.
Ghostbusters

A trio of university parapsychologists lose their research grant and
decide to open their own business as ‘Ghostbusters’. Almost at
once they are summoned to investigate the strange happenings
in a Central Park West apartment. What they discover is that all
Manhattan is being besieged by other worldly demons. Calling
Ghostbusters a cult classic doesn’t quite do it justice, for many it is
THE cult classic, it is certainly an absolute joy and probably more
frightening than you remember.

Peter Sellers is the simple-minded gardener, Chance, who
has spent all his life in the Washington D.C. house of an old

television. After a run in with a limousine, he ends up a guest of a
wealthy woman and her husband Ben, an influential but sickly
businessman. Now called Chauncey Gardiner, Chance becomes
friend and confidante to Ben, and an unlikely political insider, his
naive view of the world making him increasingly popular. This
widely-praised, award-winning comedy drama is perhaps more
salient in the current political climate, than ever before.

October half term is the first break after the long summer holidays. The
kids are exhausted, the weather can be terrible, so get the Family <strong>Film</strong>
<strong>Festival</strong> in your diary now and all your half term worries will disappear.
The Family <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> has a great mix of films and animations for all
ages. We have modern hits and well loved classics. Plus films from across
the world bringing stories and insights to entertain and inform.
For the young viewers we have Kate in Oz, a
special ‘Wizard of Oz’ inspired episode from
CBeebie’s Kate and Mim Mim. There’ll be the
new series of Peppa Pig, it’s almost as exciting
as actually jumping in a muddy puddle! And
we’ll be going on a bear hunt, we’re going to
catch a big one… you know the rest! Enjoy
Michael Rosen’s classic children’s story We’re
Going on a Bear Hunt in a short animated film.
For slightly older children, we’re screening last
year’s big hit for Disney - Moana. Except this
time it’s the sing-a-long version. We assume
you all know the words by now, but we’ll
subtitle it anyway for the two people who
haven’t seen it yet! Enjoy the heartwarming
story and raise the roof with joyful singing!
Did you know Moana is Disney’s 56th
animated feature film? We’re also screening
Disney’s first - Snow White and the Seven
Dwarves. Snow White celebrates its 80th
birthday this year. In 1937 Snow White was
Disney’s first feature-length animated film
and was a game-changer for Disney and for
Hollywood. Great fun for all the family!
We excited to be bringing Lloyd and the
Ninjago gang to the Family <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> in the
new Lego Ninjago Movie and for even older
children we have a great selection of features
and shorts from around the world including
the spellbinding documentary The
Eagle Huntress from Mongolia.
We’ve got Studio Ghibli’s
The Red Turtle, the Indian
film I am Kalam, the
Hong Kong short film
The Infamous Chalk Girl (a
must see for young people
feeling politically engaged at
the moment) and the magical,
timeless French short film The
Red Balloon. We are screening The
Red Balloon to celebrate the beauty
and movement of the Fitzwilliam Museum’s
exhibition Degas: A Passion for Perfection.
Join the Fitzwilliam team afterwards for
movement inspired art activities.
There will be a craft table every day for
children to enjoy for free and we’ll have pop
up activities with the <strong>Cambridge</strong> Science
Centre as well as special guests and more.

The 37th <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong>, one of the key events presented by the <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>Film</strong>
Trust, returns to the Arts Picturehouse and selected venues across the City this Autumn.
The <strong>Festival</strong> is the 3rd longest running in the UK, with this year marking 40 years since
its inauguration in 1977. CFF has grown a lot over forty years, and it continues to be a
celebration of film - past, present and future - as well as a champion everything that is great
about cinema.
This year the <strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> will run
from the 19th to 26th October, and will once
again be bringing the most anticipated films
of the year to <strong>Cambridge</strong>, supported as ever,
by a host of cinematic discoveries both old
and new! The very best of independent UK and
international cinema.
Of course, alongside great films there will also be
great filmmakers from across the world, taking
part in Q&As and meeting you, the <strong>Cambridge</strong>
audience.
As well as Opening and Closing Night films,
which are currently being kept top secret, look
out for previews of up-and-coming features
and inspiring documentaries, often giving you a
chance to see films prior to their UK release or
even the only chance to see a film at all.
There will be lovingly curated strands of
Catalan and Korean films. A partnership
with the <strong>Cambridge</strong> African <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong>
will put African cinema centre stage and
Microcinema will showcase the artistic
diversity of filmmaking.
You can discover the work of the world’s
most talented up and coming filmmakers in
ShortFusion, the <strong>Festival</strong>’s dedicated short
film strand, which has showcased the work of
such future greats as Christopher Nolan, Andrea
Arnold & Shane Meadows.
If you have a penchant for great horror films
then look no further than Lates @ APH, or
maybe you delight in Silent <strong>Movies</strong> with
live music accompaniment. You name it, the
<strong>Cambridge</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> will be bringing it to
your city this October.
What truly makes <strong>Cambridge</strong> different from
other festivals, is that it attracts the best films
and the biggest stars and manages to remain
intimate and approachable.
There are no red carpets, no banks of flashbulbs
going off, and the chances are the acclaimed
director of the much anticipated new film you’re
about to see is happily hanging out in the bar,
just like you!
