CAIRNS HOTEL GIVES
AWAY 1ST $1 MILLION-
PLUS JACKPOT OF 2018
ALH Group’s Balaclava Hotel has claimed the honour
of giving away the first Play 10 jackpot for 2018, worth
a cool $1,521,173, to two regular customers.
The $1.5M cash prize was won by two Cairns
mechanics in their 30s who were having a New Year’s
lunch catch-up at the popular Cairns pub.
The hotel’s Assistant Manager, Tim Turner, broke the
good news to the winners, saying “hopefully it shows
that we’re a lucky spot and it feels fantastic to make
someone’s day”.
Incredibly, 2017’s second Play 10 jackpot – a
whopping $1,946,086 – was also won by two
mechanic workmates, aged 31 and 37, at another
ALH venue, Mackay’s Austral Hotel. The first for the
year was won at the Manly Hotel.
Other Queensland hotels to give away a $1 million-plus
jackpot in 2017 were the Isa Hotel, Post Office Hotel
in Mossman, Wattle Hotel in Upper Coomera, Redcliffe
Tavern, and Browns Plains Hotel.
The jackpot is the fourth $1 million-plus Keno jackpot
to be won by Queenslanders in just three and a half
weeks.
“Queensland Keno players have won more than $6.2M
since 13 December, capping off a great year for the
Sunshine State,” said State Manager Dave Dicker.

“We’re rapt that the first major jackpot for 2018 was
won by a Queensland hotel patron and that they took
home seven $1 million-plus jackpots last year,”
Dicker said.
Last year was Keno’s 20th anniversary in Queensland,
marking two decades since Keno was first offered in
the state back in 1997.
