Jupiters Hotel and Casino’s sassy metamorphosis into
The Star Gold Coast was one of the most extensive
redevelopments ever undertaken by an Australian
hotel. Last year its stunning transformation impressed
QHA Awards for Excellence judges and saw the
hotel take out Best Deluxe Accommodation and Best
Prestige Restaurant.
Centred around the construction of The Star Grand
hotel, a 17-storey, 50-suite tower at the front of the
Broadbeach Island property, the redevelopment came
in at a cool $850M. Few corners of the enterprise were
left untouched as the revamp unfolded. In less than
a year more than 50,000 square metres of wallpaper,
180 kilometres of electrical cable and 424,940 man
hours contributed to the revitalisation of The Star’s 596
hotel rooms.

Queensland Geoff Hogg says the revamp opens up
the existing property to celebrate the region’s subtropical
climate and creates an “array of premium
experiences” reflective of the Gold Coast’s coming
of age.
“It’s fantastic to see that recognised by the peak
industry body for the hotel and hospitality industries
in Queensland.
“We really wanted the refurbished rooms to be a
place where guests could feel at home, while also
experiencing the luxury of a five-star hotel and the
excitement of being on holidays,” he says.
No expense was spared on electronics, affording
guests the opportunity to customise lighting, drapery,
temperature and service preferences through the use
of fully integrated technology. The sophisticated rooms
include multiple USB ports which support all modern
devices, complimentary WiFi, and zone control.
Guests are also treated to a specially designed pillow
