But on today’s front page we see it’s not only Sumner and New Brighton that are dealing with overflowing bins. Residents using a local suburban park in Bishopdale are fighting their own battle trying to get bins cleared so rubbish isn’t left to fly around in the strong nor-westerly wind. It’s been a hot summer so it is no wonder the parks are busy with families and, as a result, the bins are full. The city council does increase the amount of times bins are cleared at this time of year, but clearly it’s not quite doing the trick. NOR’WEST NEWS Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Tuesday February 13 2018 3 News Potholes reason for ‘poor’ roads • By Julia Evans “THIS IS just totally unacceptable.” Those are the words of Papanui-Innes Community Board chairwoman Ali Jones, who said the amount of potholes across the two wards is too high. Ms Jones and the board are lobbying to get signs of the February 22, 2011, earthquake removed, saying it has now been seven years. “This is just another part of our recovery . . . not to be looking at this kind of thing every day,” she said. It comes Ali Jones as the board asked the city council for advice on what it can do in terms of dealing with abandoned and vacant properties, which are becoming “eyesores” and risks in terms of vandalism and arson. Mayor Lianne Dalziel supported the idea. “We need initial advice on what the current rules are and how they’re applied and whether there are any changes around the regulatory process we could LAwyERS We have over 40 years’ experience to assist you with… • Buying and Selling Houses and Commercial Property • Wills, Trusts and Estate matters • All issues facing you and your business; • Employment Law matters; • Traffic matters; • Advice regarding Retirement Villages • General Legal Advice on all matters Call John, Brendan or Andrew today 03 366 8996 Email. lawyers@mclegal.co.nz Airport Business Park 92 Russley Road, Christchurch 8042 look at,” Ms Dalziel said. Ms Jones said the roads went hand-in-hand with the abandoned properties. “We just want some emphasis and effort put in around our pavements and roads,” she said. Ms Jones said streets in St Albans around Rugby Park were particularly poor and were not planned for repair in the near future. But she said it was a wider issue around the two wards that were hazards as well as unpleasant to look at. ‘CEREC’ & cosmetic dentistry Wisdom tooth removal Painless, high quality dentistry Sedation dentistry Experienced, conscientious team Experienced hygienists OPEN SATURDAYS 355 9380 144 Cranford Street www.stalbansdentalcentre.co.nz “I think that’s pretty awful for people to have to be walking around, walking dogs and driving past on streets like that,” she said. Ms Jones said its about getting the “basics right” to move on from the earthquakes. “I know the pressure the council is under and the issues around standards of repair but this is just unacceptable,” she said. “It gets worse after rain, we know that,” she said.
