* NPSI: American Standard Dryseal Intermediate Straight pipe threads are identical to NPSF threads<br />
except that the major and pitch diameters are larger by the amount of taper in one thread for the<br />
external part. They are intended primarily for assembly with PTF (SAE short) external threads. NPTF<br />
fittings are sometimes used in NPSI threads when the holes are in hard or brittle materials of heavy<br />
sections so that there is little give for wrench make-up. In such cases the larger NPSI internal thread<br />
provides a more satisfactory length of engagement for a wrench tight position.<br />
