Co ridor Busine s Journal
2345 Landon Road, Ste. 1 0
Polishing off the crystal ball to gaze into 2018, Co ridor
busine s leaders surveyed by the CBJ are wishing
the tax picture was a li tle le s hazy.
Co ridor companies, busine s owners and nonprofits
are all racing to understand just how the biggest
tax overhaul in 30 years wi l a fect them, with
some industries expected to fare be ter than others.
A cording to a recent analysis from the University of
Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Busine s, companies
in the utilities, transportation and real estate
sector stand to s e the bi gest benefit in terms of
their effective tax. Manufacturing and food service
busine ses could s e le s of a change, while nonprofits
are fearing negative e fects, due to changes to
Of course, taxes aren’ the only question mark for
local companies heading into 2018. New technologies
like bitcoin, automated sensors and chatbots are
rapidly changing how busine s is done, health care
costs continue to rise and the stru gle to find and k ep
qualified workers continues with no end in sight.
Mergers and acquisitions remain hot and the bull
market k eps running – set to become the longest
on record in March, if it can sustain itself. Wi l the
tax cuts buy a few more years of growth or is there a
bubble just waiting to pop?
Recognizing that n one has a l the answers, we
thought the best approach would be to ask Co ridor
busine s leaders and experts for their opinions on what
to watch for in 2018. Some are optimistic and others
les so, but one thing is for certain: It’s going to be an
interesting, fast-paced year, so get strapped in. >>
