CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE 1 (Name, location and affiliation)
Section 1. The name of this Association shall be The
Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association, dba
Home Builders Association of Iowa City.
Section 2. The principle office of this Association shall be
located at a site to be designated by a majority vote of
the Board of Directors.
Section 3. This Association is and shall be an Affiliated
Association of the National Association of Home
Builders of the United States and the Home Builders
Association of Iowa and shall abide by their respective
Bylaws as amended.
Section 4. The National Association of Home Builders
shall conduct the operation of this Association in the
territory assigned to its jurisdiction now and hereafter.
ARTICLE II (Objectives)
Section 1. The objectives of this Association shall be:
(A) To associate the builders within its jurisdiction for the
purpose of mutual advantage and cooperation.
(B) To collaborate with all fields related to the building
industry within the Association’s jurisdiction for the
benefit of the industry as a whole.
(C) To maintain high professional standards and sound
business methods among its members through the
enforcement of its Code of Ethics.
(D) To secure cooperative action in advancing the
common purposes of its members and proper
consideration of opinion upon questions affecting the
home building industry within the jurisdiction of this
Association.
(E) To comply with all laws, federal, state and local.
(F) To assist in accomplishments of the mutual objectives
of the National Association of Home Builders of the
United States and the Home Builders Association of Iowa.
(G) To operate without profit. No
part of the income of the Association shall inure to the
benefit of any individual member.
(H) If the Association shall cease to exist, all remaining
assets will be transferred to an organization exempt
from federal income taxes under the provisions of
Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code or of
similar provisions if the Code is changed.
ARTICLE III (Code of Ethics for Active Members)
Section 1. The Active Members of this Association shall be
limited to those persons and firms who shall subscribe to
the following Code of Ethics:
(A) Members of the Home Builders Association of Iowa
City believe and affirm that:
(1) Home ownership can and should be within the reach
of every American family.
(2) Homes and structures should be well designed and
located in active communities, with educational, recreational,
religious and shopping facilities accessible to all.
(3) Homes should be built under the free American
enterprise system.
(B) To achieve the goals, we pledge allegiance to the
following principles and policies:
Our paramount responsibility is to our customers, our
community and our country.
Honesty is our guiding business policy; members shall
not knowingly enter into any contract, the terms of
which are designed to imperil the rights of either labor
or the suppliers of materials and shall not obtain any
business by means of fraudulent statements or by use
of implications unwarranted by fact.
Members shall perform in a matter that is consistent
with standards of quality workmanship and materials
in order to promote a favorable image of the industry.
Members shall comply with rules and regulations
prescribed by law and government agencies for the
health, safety and progress of the community.
High standards of health, safety and sanitation shall be
built into every home, rental or commercial structure.
Members shall deal fairly with their respective
employees, subcontractors and suppliers.
Members shall strive to attain and maintain high
professional standards through continued education.
