CONSTITUTION<br />

ART<strong>IC</strong>LE 1 (Name, location and affiliation)<br />

Section 1. The name of this Association shall be The<br />

Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association, dba<br />

Home Builders Association of Iowa City.<br />

Section 2. The principle office of this Association shall be<br />

located at a site to be designated by a majority vote of<br />

the Board of Directors.<br />

Section 3. This Association is and shall be an Affiliated<br />

Association of the National Association of Home<br />

Builders of the United States and the Home Builders<br />

Association of Iowa and shall abide by their respective<br />

Bylaws as amended.<br />

Section 4. The National Association of Home Builders<br />

shall conduct the operation of this Association in the<br />

territory assigned to its jurisdiction now and hereafter.<br />

ART<strong>IC</strong>LE II (Objectives)<br />

Section 1. The objectives of this Association shall be:<br />

(A) To associate the builders within its jurisdiction for the<br />

purpose of mutual advantage and cooperation.<br />

(B) To collaborate with all fields related to the building<br />

industry within the Association’s jurisdiction for the<br />

benefit of the industry as a whole.<br />

(C) To maintain high professional standards and sound<br />

business methods among its members through the<br />

enforcement of its Code of Ethics.<br />

(D) To secure cooperative action in advancing the<br />

common purposes of its members and proper<br />

consideration of opinion upon questions affecting the<br />

home building industry within the jurisdiction of this<br />

Association.<br />

(E) To comply with all laws, federal, state and local.<br />

(F) To assist in accomplishments of the mutual objectives<br />

of the National Association of Home Builders of the<br />

United States and the Home Builders Association of Iowa.<br />

(G) To operate without profit. No<br />

part of the income of the Association shall inure to the<br />

benefit of any individual member.<br />

(H) If the Association shall cease to exist, all remaining<br />

assets will be transferred to an organization exempt<br />

from federal income taxes under the provisions of<br />

Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code or of<br />

similar provisions if the Code is changed.<br />

ART<strong>IC</strong>LE III (Code of Ethics for Active Members)<br />

Section 1. The Active Members of this Association shall be<br />

limited to those persons and firms who shall subscribe to<br />

the following Code of Ethics:<br />

(A) Members of the Home Builders Association of Iowa<br />

City believe and affirm that:<br />

(1) Home ownership can and should be within the reach<br />

of every American family.<br />

(2) Homes and structures should be well designed and<br />

located in active communities, with educational, recreational,<br />

religious and shopping facilities accessible to all.<br />

(3) Homes should be built under the free American<br />

enterprise system.<br />

(B) To achieve the goals, we pledge allegiance to the<br />

following principles and policies:<br />

Our paramount responsibility is to our customers, our<br />

community and our country.<br />

Honesty is our guiding business policy; members shall<br />

not knowingly enter into any contract, the terms of<br />

which are designed to imperil the rights of either labor<br />

or the suppliers of materials and shall not obtain any<br />

business by means of fraudulent statements or by use<br />

of implications unwarranted by fact.<br />

Members shall perform in a matter that is consistent<br />

with standards of quality workmanship and materials<br />

in order to promote a favorable image of the industry.<br />

Members shall comply with rules and regulations<br />

prescribed by law and government agencies for the<br />

health, safety and progress of the community.<br />

High standards of health, safety and sanitation shall be<br />

built into every home, rental or commercial structure.<br />

Members shall deal fairly with their respective<br />

employees, subcontractors and suppliers.<br />

Members shall strive to attain and maintain high<br />

professional standards through continued education.<br />
