EXECUTIVE OFF<strong>IC</strong>ER’S MESSAGE<br />
I have truly enjoyed my first two years as your Executive Officer! Thank<br />
you very much for a wonderful 2017 and I’m looking forward to 2018.<br />
We’ve had some very informative local and national education<br />
programs this past year including the Certified New Home Sales<br />
Professional Designation and are planning more for 2018 starting<br />
with a Construction Contract Law and the Certified Aging in Place<br />
Designation classes in the spring.<br />
Our Vocational Training Council and members sponsored the 2nd<br />
Annual Construction Camp at Clear Creek Amana Middle School this<br />
past summer. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students participated<br />
over two weeks to build games, shelves and dug out benches. Our<br />
Association received recognition for the camp at the Association<br />
Management Conference in August and will be honored by The Corridor Business Journal.<br />
Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids picked up our course as part of their K<strong>IC</strong>K Camps.<br />
The Student Built House program will be revived in 2018 with wonderful local and county<br />
partnerships. Call me to see how you can get involved! There will be plenty of opportunity.<br />
The Remodelers Council continues to be one of the fastest growing councils in the country for<br />
our size. The Council continues to be involved with the community. The 20th Annual Remodelers<br />
Showcase took place in 2017 and I look forward to the 21st Birthday Party.<br />
We celebrated our 50th Annual Parade of Homes in June, 2017. The Greater <strong>IC</strong> Area <strong>HBA</strong> was<br />
honored at the Parade of Homes Builder Breakfast by the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce with<br />
a Roots Award. Many past presidents were in attendance to be recognized at the special occasion.<br />
Our Legislative Committee has been very active in 2017 and will continue to work with the local,<br />
county, state and national governments in 2018 on affordable housing, TIF and the Johnson<br />
County Land Use/Development Plan.<br />
I am very proud to be a part of our local <strong>HBA</strong>. We have a wonderful board of directors and<br />
great committee chairs. The commitment and support received is 2nd to none in the nation.<br />
We are still the 3rd largest association in the state but don’t be surprised if we move up to the<br />
2nd place spot soon.<br />
