King’s High School presents MERMAID by Polly Teale A bold reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of love, loss and finding your voice, transported to a contemporary setting. Beneath the ocean’s waves there is no death or pain or separation. Above, the modern world is beset with war, poverty and hardship. On her sixteenth birthday, a mermaid rises up to the surface, leaving her childhood behind for ever when she falls in love - but must she destroy herself in order to be loved? Meanwhile a young girl realises that she too has an important choice to make – take the easy route and follow the crowd or stand up and show the world who she is. In a world where the female voice is becoming more important than ever, the talented cast and crew of King’s High School will bring to life this beautifully poetic story to really explore the importance of finding your voice! Thu 21 – Sat 23 Jun 7pm BHT (21st & 22nd); 3pm (23rd) £8 / £5 19
