Spring and Summer
Season 2018
WELCOME TO THE BRIDGE HOUSE THEATRE AND
WARWICK HALL SPRING AND SUMMER 2018 SEASON.
Welcome to the Bridge House Theatre and Warwick
Hall Spring Summer 2018 season
This season we continue to offer some fabulous
theatre and music experiences for an ever-growing
audience – thank you for supporting us, we really
appreciate it.
Aylesford School bring another classic
school-based play in February. In Willy Russell’s
Our Day Out Mrs Kay’s ‘Progress Class’ are
unleashed for a day’s coach trip to Conway
Castle in Wales. But this is more than a romp
– Our Day Out highlights the empty futures
for these children from the backstreets of
Liverpool, for whom a day out was as much as
they could expect.
Blow away the Winter blues with Jazz at the
Bridge, with performances from some of
Warwick’s most talented young musicians.
This is a very popular event so please book
early.
With Winter in full force The Bone Ensemble bring us
an Arctic adventure with live music and a great story.
Where’s my Igloo Gone? cleverly weaves scientific
knowledge into the extraordinary journey of Oolik who
needs to save her igloo home. With dynamic interactive
activities children will be fully part of the story, problemsolving
and working together to help the characters.
We are thrilled that Les Petits are making
their Bridge House debut with Captain Flinn
and the Pirate Dinosaurs 2. Known for
their inventiveness and joyful fantasy Les
Petits will, no doubt, whisk you away on a
wonderful adventure.
Blackeyed Theatre have become Bridge House
favourites and we are delighted to see them return
with the ever popular Teechers by John Godber. In an
educational climate where the arts are often marginalised
it celebrates the joy of theatre, the inspiration of teachers
and mocks the petty power squabbles of school-life. With
just three actors multi-rolling, it will also be a master-class
in character performance from this dynamic and hugely
creative company. Don’t miss it.
For lovers of thrillers and ghost stories
The Middle School production this year
is not one to miss! Seen for the first time
in Edinburgh last Summer, The Curse
of Cranholme Abbey follows a group of
young people as they visit a neglected
inherited mansion and discover its tragic
and sinister past. With a talented cast of
14-15 year olds from Warwick and King’s
High we are sure this one will make you
jump as we move through three time
periods in the Abbey’s terrifying past.
Fantastic for Families
Dyad Productions return with Jane Eyre: An Autobiography.
This literary classic is told through the eyes of Jane herself and
performed by the brilliant Rebecca Vaughan.
Once again Vamos bring their full-mask performance style
to Warwick with the powerful A Brave Face. Created after
painstaking research into PTSD the play explores the impact of
this silent injury on the family of its victims. This is astonishing
work from one of the country’s foremost mask companies. If
you haven’t seen Vamos before, don’t miss this masterclass in
emotionally powerful masked performance.
Learned Friends brings a high stakes legal drama to Warwick
by the brilliant Ginny Davis. Prosecution and Defence
Counsel await the verdict in the trial of a high-profile football
manager. With an ending which is decided by the audience
and a post-show Q&A with a high court judge, this is your
chance to immerse yourself in the legal world.
The season ends with our first Discovery Festival – which
will be detailed in a further brochure in the Spring.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Bridge House
Theatre this season.
TEECHERS
By John Godber
Directed by Adrian McDougall
Blackeyed Theatre revives its highly-acclaimed production of John
Godber’s classic comedy about life at a struggling ‘sink school’ for
Mr Nixon, an unsuspecting new drama teacher.
Featuring breathtaking ensemble performances
and a bang-up-to-date soundtrack, Teechers
brings to life an array of terrifying teachers
and hopeless pupils through the unique
eyes of Salty, Gail and Hobby; three
Year 11 students about to leave
school for good.
Will Mr Nixon abandon his
students for a green and pleasant
Grammar school? Who puts the
bounce in Miss Prime, the PE
teacher? Will Mrs Parry ever
find her Koko? And why does
everyone smell of spring
onions?
Crammed full of unforgettable
characters, political left-hooks
and razor-sharp comedy,
Teechers is more relevant
today than ever, a modern
classic with something vital
to say about education for the
‘haves’ and ‘have nots’.
romance is now distilled for the stage – under its
King’s High School presents
MERMAID
by Polly Teale
A bold reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale
of love, loss and finding your voice, transported to a
contemporary setting.
Beneath the ocean’s waves there is no death or pain or
separation. Above, the modern world is beset with war,
poverty and hardship.
On her sixteenth birthday, a mermaid rises up to the
surface, leaving her childhood behind for ever when
she falls in love - but must she destroy herself in
order to be loved? Meanwhile a young girl realises
that she too has an important choice to make
– take the easy route and follow the crowd or
stand up and show the world who she is.
In a world where the female voice is becoming
more important than ever, the talented cast
and crew of King’s High School will bring to life
this beautifully poetic story to really explore
the importance of finding your voice!
hours’ notice before the performance. There is a £2 exchange fee for this
service.
If an event has sold out we are happy to try and re-sell your tickets once
we have sold all of our own available tickets, including any last minute
holds we may have. Please note that we cannot guarantee the re-sale of
your tickets.
Tickets cannot be refunded unless a performance is cancelled. In the
event of a cancelled performance, patrons will first be offered the
opportunity to exchange tickets for another performance; if there
are no alternative tickets or if the patron is not able to attend an
alternative performance the full purchase cost of the ticket will be
refunded via the original payment method.
Full terms and conditions of booking are listed on our website.
booster seats in the main auditorium readily available.
Unisex baby changing facilities are provided. In the foyer area we regularly
have children’s activities and resources themed to the performance that day.
