The Group Command Post moved toLUDWEILER, GERMANY, 9 March 1945. - b. During the night 13 14 March 1945, and 116;h combat patrols from the 101st Cay Ren Sqs, Mecz, made deep penetrations of the enemy positions to their front. From the information gained, operations to clear the enemy from the south bank of the SAAR, RIVER in the 101st Cavalry Group, Mecz, zone were initiated on 14 March 1945, and successfully completed on 15 March 1945. These operations resulted in a general advance ofapproximately 2500 meters, the capture or destruction of all enemy forces south of the SAAR RIVER in the Group Zone, and the capof GEISLAUTERN, ture of the towns WEHRDEN, SCHAFFHAUSEN and HO STENBACH, all Germany. Many casualties were inflicted upon the enemy and 54 prisoners of war were taken. Casualties of 2 killed and 31 wounded were of the 101st Cavalry suffered by elements Group, Mecz (for detailed account of this operation, see Inclosure No. 1). c. (1) Pursuant to Opns Instns No. 39, Headquarters XXICorps, 16 March 1945, the 101st Cavalry Group, Mecz, was at- 21 tached to the 63rd <strong>Infantry</strong> <strong>Division</strong> and directed to assemble vicinity of HELLI MER, FRANCE, after the relief of the Group's front line units by elements of the <strong>70th</strong> <strong>Infantry</strong> <strong>Division</strong> had been completed. The Group closed inthe prescribed area at 171100 A. Co A, 1 Ren Plat, 822 d TD Bn (T) and Co B, 99th Cml Mortar Bn to the Group were relieved of attachment upon its departure from the WEHRDEN HOSTENBACH area. The 93rd AFA Bn (105 mm), Co X, 253rd <strong>Infantry</strong> and the 63rd Cay Ren Troop, Mecz, were attached to the 101st Cavalry Group, Mecz, upon its arrival in the HELLIMERarea.
