eight days of game viewing in
Africa, where the company first
started touring, as part of their
small group departures.
“We flew into Johannesburg
and took a private aircraft
to Madikwe game reserve,
flying over the most amazing
scenery,” Megan said.
“We had three nights at
the Makanyane safari
lodge. We’d wake to a
light breakfast before an
early morning game drive
in an open-air Jeep to see
the results of the predator
activity the night before.
“On safari, we tracked
animals with our expert
guide Darren following
tracks and sounds. After a
sumptuous lunch we had time
to relax with a massage or
lounge around the pool before
heading out on an afternoon
game drive to spot shy, nocturnal
species and predators
heading out on the hunt each
evening.
“Darren would set up our
pre-evening cocktails and we
would watch the sun set. The
colours were amazing – and
then the sounds would start!
The lion’s roar sent shivers
down my spine but it was miles
away, you hear everything and
see so much.
“Then it was back to the lodge
for warm drinks and a fireside
chat, sharing our day’s sightings
with other guests over a gorgeous
dinner with fine wines.”
Megan’s trip concluded with
four nights in Capetown, taking
in great dining, penguins at
Cape Point, the architecture at
Stellenbosch and wine tasting
at Grand Provence.
“After a day on Robben Island
our farewell dinner was with
Christo Brand, the warden who
became lifelong friends with
Nelson Mandela,” Megan said.
“It was very emotional hearing
his story – this is a special
experience exclusive to A&K

highlight!”
