Locals find clear
way to improve
Mona Vale Road
Take a bow Pittwater –
your sensible feedback
on the Concept Design
for the all-important Mona
Vale Road West upgrade has
triggered several significant
improvements that Roads and
Maritime Services officials
agree will benefit traffic flow
as the population grows.
Following the amendments,
the RMS has prepared a Review
of Environmental Factors (REF)
and a Species Impact Statement
which is on display for
further community comment
until Monday March 13.
Northern Beaches Council
is working with the RMS to
ensure the road upgrade takes
into account projected traffic
from future development.
Since the original Concept
Design was displayed for community
consultation in late
2014, Roads and Maritime has
refined the design in response
to community feedback and
the release of the Ingleside
Precinct Plan.
The changes include construction
of a new access road
linking Powder Works Road to
Harvey Road for current and
future residents, changing
access to the Baha’i Temple,
Tumburra Street and Addison
Road, and investigating new
fauna crossings.
On and off ramps and an
overpass which were originally
slated to solve the issue
of access to the new Ingleside
development have been abandoned,
replaced by a new road
extension into Harvey Road (at
the major Powderworks Road
intersection) that loops around
and joins up with Tumburra St.
The new plan sees Tumburra
Street will be restricted to left
turn in and left turn out, thus
reducing traffic disruption on
the corridor adjoining Garigal
National Park.
The road upgrade will
require some property adjustments
and acquisitions, with
the RMS holding discussions
with the affected property
owners and continuing to work
with the community to minimise
impact.
Major objectives include
improving traffic flow and
efficiency by providing additional
lanes; improving safety
for motorists, pedestrians and
cyclists by improving the road
alignment and widening the
shoulders; providing safe and
efficient travel for pedestrians
and cyclists from a new shared
path; providing better access
for current and future Ingle-
