is opened and a new object is uncovered.<br />

Children learn about the object in<br />

the box, hear a related story and join<br />

Hinkler.<br />

Jennifer Wilson, Senior Curator at<br />

Queensland Museum, will present<br />

Hustling Hinkler - The story of Bert<br />

Hinkler’s 1928 flight from England<br />

to Australia.<br />

Nearly 90 years ago, on February<br />

7, 1928, Queensland aviator, Bert<br />

Hinkler left Croydon aerodrome and<br />

arrived in Darwin 15½ days later,<br />

completing the first solo flight from<br />

England to Australia and setting numerous<br />

aviation records along the<br />

way.<br />

The aircraft, Hinkler’s Avro Avian,<br />

hangs on display in the foyer of the<br />

Queensland Museum.<br />

Da Vinci machines - Leonardo’s<br />

inventions brought to life.<br />

This award-winning international<br />

touring exhibition showcases iconic<br />

machines and inventions inspired by<br />

Leonardo’s drawings.<br />

On loan from the Museum of<br />

Leonardo da Vinci in Florence, a vast<br />

array of machines are created from<br />

original da Vinci drawings bringing<br />

the mechanical concepts of this curious<br />

mind to life.<br />

Highlights include the bicycle,<br />

scuba suit, spring powered car, as<br />

well as flying machines where visitors<br />

may touch and set them in motion,<br />

combining a fascinating handson<br />

experience with an exploration of<br />

the principles he employed to create<br />

each machine.<br />

Visitors will also see actual size<br />

digital prints of the Mona Lisa, The<br />

Last Supper, The Annunciation,<br />

Lady with an Ermine and da Vinci’s<br />

self-portrait.<br />
