The floor-to-ceiling white kitchen cabinetry combined with
almost all internal walls painted in resene Double alabaster
also creates a vastness of space, while the contrast of the deep
resene fuscous grey in the study creates a spot in which you
want to hunker down to read a book or listen to music.
outside, the vertical cedar cladding has been enveloped in
resene pitch Black stain, creating strength, while softness comes
in the form of the beautiful plantings, including a magnolia tree
– the only surviving plant from the earthquake. a soft moss
riverbed will soon form to fill in the walkway from the master
bedroom to the outside entertaining area. a large wooden deck
wraps around the back and side of the house while, on the
other side, the narrow raised vegetable beds are full of offerings
for the table. Cleverly, the landscape design (completed by Ben
McMaster) means, once the plants mature, this will become a
place of tranquility right in town – private and peaceful.
at times the build wasn’t always easy, but because their
builder, Kade Wallis of Construkt, was also a great advocate of
the plan, it meant they knew they would get the house of their
dreams. and they have.
overwhelmingly, the reverence of the graceful statue in the
garden, which rests peacefully back where it belongs, is a true
symbol of what has been and the future ahead. life for ian,
aaron and Billie promises to be a lot better in their beautiful
new home.
