Welcome back to all our
loyal clients of CEC.
2018 is already filled with lots of activities and the month of love around the
corner.
On the 8th of January 2018, one of our mares, Arizona, blessed us with a
beautiful little colt. He was running around at 3 hours old already and has

emained healthy! Welcome to life at CEC little Rover. (Please take
note that mommy is VERY PROTECTIVE – we ask that no one
enter the paddock where mom and baby are as you might get a
bite or kick!)

CEC SHOWS AND
OTHER EVENTS
Our first Training show for 2018 will be hosted here, at CEC
on Saturday 10 February 2018 with a VALENTINE theme.
Entry forms are available at the office, or alternatively, click
here to download your entry form.
We are also on the lookout for sponsors for this first training
show – sponosored prizes can be anything from cash, or any
other horse-related items as we want to encourage our
riders by offering them lovely rewards for their hard work.
PLEASE contact Melindi via email at CountrysideEC@gmail.
com if you are willing to be a sponsor for our show.
Info regarding sponsors will be announced on the show day.
An allocated area can be set up should you wish to erect
a gazebo to advertise your business. We greatly appreciate
our sponsors and will do as much promotion for you as
possible at the Valentines Show jumping and Equitation
training show.

Welcome to the following riders who joined our CEC family; Luan, Jeané
as well as Mieke, we hope you have a happy stay here with us. We are
also welcoming Mieke de Beers’ lovely 2 horses to our yard – feel free
to go say hello to Splash and Rusalka standing in stables 17 and 18!
Cassablanca (Beautiful Bay Friesian x Thoroughbred 3 year old mare) also
arrived at CEC during December 2017 and will be available for sale soon.
We also said goodbye to Enniscorty who was sold during December as well as Jungle Calm
who was re-located in KZN where his owner, Megan Scrooby is working as a veterinarian.
We always have a variety of horses and ponies for sale. For more

HORSE-PITAL
Thankfully we had a relatively uneventful festive season with the horses behaving themselves.
• During the start of January 2018, Cheval has a snotty nose, but is currently being treated with
antibiotics and is already showing signs of improvement.
• Belle injured her left hind leg when kicking out in the field and had a small wound which was
easily treated.
• A few of the horses are getting mange, which goes hand-in-hand with the season. Our
awesome stable manager, Charlene, is treating all the horses with mange on a daily basis.
Clients who have horses stabled at CEC: PLEASE ENSURE your horse’s box in front of their
stable (full livery) or box at the paddock (Paddock livery) has F10 OR vetguard shampoo
inside for treatment of mange. Should you NOT have one of these 2 products available in
your box, We will make use of our own F10 treatment shampoo and clients will be charged
R150 PER TREATMENT.
• Clients, please ensured your horses are insured for a critical care cover of at least R80 000 by
either Equipage, Kuda or Onesure.

NEIGHS-FLASH
• We are continually fixing up broken paddock poles
as we go, re-painting of paddocks with Carbolineum
will commence during February 2018, PLEASE
Do not put your horse in a paddock if the gate
is closed and the water bucket is turned upsidedown
as this means the paddock is still wet and
the Carbolineum product burns the horses’ skin.
• Thank you to all clients who
supplied the grooms of CEC with
gift packs during the festive season!
It was greatly appreciated and their
smiles proved how thankful they are.
• With the first SANESA school show
around the corner, please book your
instructor WELL IN ADVANCE if
you require instructor assistance
at the show. The cost per rider for
instructor assistance is R400 per
day. Nicolene and Corinne are our
resident instructor who will be
accompanying students to shows.
• Each horse has an updated fact
sheet at their stable, feel free to
roam around and read all the
interesting facts on the horses
standing in our fabulous stables.
• Our training and show poles used
for show jumps are being re-painted
for the new season.
• During December some floors of stables were
in the areas where horses hollowed it out.
• Please remember that there is ALWAYS a rider
on horseback when entering the main gate which
gives access to the premises of CEC. Please stick
to the speed limit of 40 km/h and please be on
the lookout for riders on horseback who might be
riding around on the farm as well as our famous
‘bokkies’. We appreciate your consideration.
• Janet Dewar-Pitts is available on Tuesday mornings
for dressage riders. We always advertise her services
of Dressage lessons which are given at her rate of
R350 per lesson on our Whattsapp group. ANYONE
is welcome – you do not need to be an experienced
rider to participate in a dressage lesson with Janet.

stable yard. Please feel free to contact Melindi 084 760 8450 or Charlene 072 076 1804 to
discuss any of the mentioned above. Please Respect our business hours as we stop taking calls
and responding to text / whattsapp messages from 6:30 pm. In the event of an emergency
after hours eg. a Sick horse, the owner of said horse will be contacted in order to arrange
veterinary or hospital care.
Note to stabling &
riding clients:
• Our yearly planner (subject
to change) as well as
our fees for 2018 can be

• ALL horses and ponies will
be dewormed on Monday 29
January 2018.
•
ALL horses and ponies are
due for their first Equine
influenza vaccine during
February 2018. Please take
note the fee for the vaccine
as well as the veterinary
inoculation fee will be added
to your February 2018 invoice.
• Clients who are in possession
of their horses’ passport must
please return it to the office
in order for the veterinarian
to stamp and sign once the
Equine Influenza vaccine
has been administered.
• Our Equine Dentist will also
be visiting the horses again
during middle February 2018.
Your horses’ teeth MUST be
seen to AT LEAST ONCE
EVERY YEAR. The Equine
Dental Technician fee will

• NO rider is allowed to
jump fences in the cross
country area without an
instructor present and
the rider wearing a body
protector. Remember
guys that these jumps are
SOLID, and should only
be attempted under the
watchful eye of one of our
instructors. If you want
to book a cross country
jumping lesson, come
chat to us at the office
so we can book you in.
• PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
IF PAYMENT WITH
REGARDS TO YOUR
STABLING AND / OR
RIDING LESSONS ARE
NOT PAID BY THE 3RD
DAY OF EACH NEW
MONTH – a late payment
penalty of R150 will
take effect and be billed
with your next invoice.

guys, this is for your own

• Riders having Lessons at
Countryside Equestrian
Centre – Please remember
that we work on a 24
hour notice period for
Cancellation of Lessons. It
has happened a few times
where riders don’t show
up for their scheduled
riding lesson where the
horse / pony has been
saddled up and is ready to
work. In these events our
instructors WILL NOT
catch up the riding lesson
missed unless in the event
of an EMERGENCY. Our 24
hour notice period enables
the instructor to then book
in another student who
might have missed a lesson
and thus the instructors’
time is not wasted as ALL
our instructors work on
a commission basis with
regards to lessons given.
• Clients: Please remember
if you would like to
discontinue riding lessons
or stabling at CEC we need
to receive one CALENDER
months’ notice / payment
in advance.
Mange in horses:
Mange is the common name given to parasitic skin diseases caused by mites, which cause intense
itching and hair loss in the horse. Mites are most active during the hot dry summer months and
can be found on long grass where they are picked up when contact is made. When the mite
attaches itself to the horses legs it injects a fluid into the horses tissue which causes irritation and
discomfort. The mite will remain on the horses skin for a few days before dropping to the ground
where it then burrows into the soil and matures into a adult after 6 weeks.
There are 5 main types of mange that can affect horses and all require careful and thorough
treatment. Symptoms include:
• Hair loss.
• Itching
• Stamping of the feet.
• Inflammation.
• Small lesions occur that
• begin crusting over within
a day, they are often found
around the horses lower
legs.

We have CEC club shirts available in the office at
R450 per shirt. If we do not have your size in stock,
we will order it and have it readily available within 2
weeks.
Please take note that CEC riders who partake at our
CEC shows and other training shows are required to
wear our CEC club shirts
We have teamed up with Sales Squad who will be
running all marketing campaigns for the Countryside
Equestrian Centre, and if you are interested in
advertising in our newsletter, which will also be
available on our Facebook page, please feel free to

Good luck to all the students who are back at school
and all our riders who will be partaking at shows
during this month.
