New goal posts for damaged school
FOR THE first time since the
September 2010 earthquake,
Banks Avenue School have a
set of rugby goal posts on their
field.
The Palms Shopping Centre
was behind the school’s gala
day on Sunday afternoon,
donating money to help out
with the cost of the posts.
More than $2000 was raised
at the gala day.
Pupils decorated the goal
posts with hand drawn hearts
inscribed with their initials,
staying true to their school
COMBO: Mother and
daughter pair Catriona
and Hazel Hay (pictured)
are two of 13 eastern
residents that are part
of the Christchurch City
Chorus heading to Las
Vegas. The choir will
perform at the Sweet
Adeline International
Competition in Las Vegas
next month. It will be the
ninth time the chorus has
represented the country
at the competition. The
chorus will also perform
on Saturday, September 17
at 2pm and 7.30pm at the
Charles Luney Auditorium
at St Margaret’s College.
For every successful kick over
the new goal posts during the
gala day, The Palms donated $5
towards their cost.
The decile four school has
struggled to gather the funds
for repairs to their grounds.
The school’s rebuild date is yet
to be confirmed.
The new goal posts will
be portable. If the rebuild of
the school is confirmed on a
different site, the goal posts
can be moved along with the
school.
The gala day coincided with
Father’s Day, and a number
of local families participated
on the day, which also saw a
local kapa haka group, a choir,
jump jam, bouncy castles and a
sausage sizzle.
ON TARGET: Banks
Avenue School received
a big boost on their gala
day when more than
$2000 was raised for its
new goal posts.
Elected
attendance
NEWLY RELEASED data on
city councillors’ attendance at
meetings shows eastern suburbs’
incumbents have good records.
Of the 83 city council meetings
between October 24, 2013, and
July 28 this year, Cr Livingstone
has only missed two, while Cr East
has been absent for five.
There were also 63 Burwood-
Pegasus Community Board meetings
between October 29, 2013,
and July 18 this year.
Cr East has missed 12 of those
meetings – more than any other
board member.
He told Pegasus Post his absences
were due to other council
commitments.
“Nine times out of 10 [for the
absences], there will be another
council commitment that I would
have had to go to,” he said.
Community board member Tim
Baker had the highest attendance
rate, having only missed two
from 63. Cr Livingstone was close
behind on 59, then member Linda
Stewart on 57, and Stan Tawa
and Tim Sintes were tied on 56.
Chairwoman Andrea Cummings
attended 54.
