met his basketball idol, Canterbury Rams guard Ethan Rusbatch,
on Thursday night. The school’s basketball team were gifted
tickets to the Rams game to give them a boost before they head
away to compete in the secondary schools premiership zone 4
boys tournament, held this year in Ashburton.

Boys’ High too good for Lincoln

CHRISTCHURCH Boys’ High
will go into this week’s annual
game against Christ’s College in
fine form.
The all boys’ school were too
much for Lincoln High School
at the weekend, dismissing the
visitors 86-0 in a one-sided
affair.
After a slow start, including
a loss to Marlborough Boys
and draw with Nelson, Christchurch
Boys appear to now be
hitting their straps as they look
to make it 16 consecutive wins
over Christ’s.
This year’s annual fixture has
been the most hyped in recent
years with Christ’s College
looking a different side from the
one that lost 80-0 in last year’s
fixture.
Under the coaching guidance
of former All Black captain
Reuben Thorne and former
Crusader Cameron McIntyre,
Christ’s find themselves in an
unfamiliar position at the top of
the UC Championship.
A 36-0 win over Roncalli
at the weekend is the latest
evidence to suggest 2016 is the
school’s best chance in recent
years of ending the drought
which goes back to 2000.
St Andrew’s have retained
the Moascar Cup, with a 10-10
draw on Saturday meaning the
trophy will stay in Christchurch.
A late try from Sam Gilbert
was just enough for last year’s
semi-finalists who are unbeaten
through five games in this year’s
championship.
St Andrew’s face another
tough test this weekend when
they host defending champions
St Bede’s.
The 2015 champions had a
victory in the latest round, a
28-8 win against Rangiora High
moves them into the top half of
the championship.
