In the words of our Clients,
Supporters and Friends
The Women’s Empowerment Network has helped me to
upgrade my skills, gain confidence in the work field, and
explore new careers. As a participant, I am surrounded by
supportive staff that I know care about me and want to
ensure that I make a successful transition back to work.
Kimberly, WEN Student
The YW after-school program at Independence has
afforded our students the opportunity to earn credits while
also exposing them to professionals in industries like music,
health and fitness, modeling and fashion.
Ron Smolkin, Principal, Independence High School
We have always received qualified and experienced
employment referrals from the Women’s Empowerment
Network. The candidates were always well-prepared for the
interview. Those we hired have an excellent work ethic and
understand the dynamics of the workplace. Your agency is
an asset to the community.
I would still be on public assistance if WEN didn’t help me
set new goals and learn new skills. My life is now on the
right track and I can teach my daughter how to set her own
goals and work toward a better life.
Anne, WEN Student
The Charles A. Frueauff Foundation is proud to support
the YWCA of the City of New York in its efforts to
improve the lives of New York City women and their
families. Our investment in the Women’s Empowerment
Network has reaped significant rewards by strengthening
women’s job skills, self-esteem and resilience.
The YW has taken care of two of the most precious people
in my life — my five-year old son and my three-year old
daughter. If it weren’t for the Richmond ELC, it would
be impossible for me to work and go to school with three
children under the age of eight.
WEN graduates all
possess the computer
skills necessary to
seek employment.
The YW’s corporate partners assist WEN
students through mock interview
sessions and one-to-one counseling.
Bergtraum High School for Business Careers in Lower
Manhattan, and the Math & Science/LEGO Club at
P.S. 90 in Coney Island and P.S. 327 in Brownsville. This
be made to improve educational resources for students
when the non-profit and corporate worlds work together.
HSBC looks forward to a continued partnership with
Because of this class, I feel more self-sufficient and
confidant. I’ve been given a second chance at life and I will
be moving forward in my education and career to make a
better life for my family.
Roxane, WEN Student
As a Human Resource Vice President at Bank of New
York Mellon, I am writing to express our sincere support
for the Women’s Empowerment Network which includes
exercises in self discovery, learning the latest Microsoft
applications, résumé writing and interviewing skills. I
have had the distinct honor of participating in their
mock interview sessions which provide the participants
practice in interviewing with those of us from the business
world. Without learning the skills developed through your
job readiness program, many of these women would not
otherwise have the opportunity to venture into corporate
America. I am very proud to be of assistance to such a
valuable agency and program in ‘Helping People and
Changing Lives.’
