Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Humanities<br />

IIT’s B.S. in Humanities is a flexible degree program<br />

aimed at students who are interested in the study <strong>of</strong> history,<br />

philosophy and communication from a technological<br />

point <strong>of</strong> view, and in the study <strong>of</strong> science and technology<br />

from a humanistic point <strong>of</strong> view. This degree prepares<br />

students for graduate studies in the humanities and<br />

social sciences, and for pr<strong>of</strong>essional programs in law and<br />

medicine.<br />

Within this major, students can choose concentrations in<br />

literature, linguistics, philosophy, history and communication.<br />

Students doing this in, for example, philosophy,<br />

would take all major electives and independent study<br />

Students accepted into the Honors Pre-Law Program<br />

substitute first year law courses for the minor and most<br />

free electives and take all other coursework in the first<br />

three years.<br />

This degree has four components:<br />

• General education (47 hours)<br />

• Major field coursework (45 hours)<br />

• Minor (15 hours)*<br />

• Free electives (19 hours)*<br />

chosen in consultation with the student’s academic<br />
