In an ever more technological world, a substantive<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> the sciences is a requirement for many<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essions, including careers in science, education, health<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essions and, increasingly, areas such as law and business.<br />
In the latter cases, a technical background can<br />
serve as a unique and sought after qualification.<br />
The Department <strong>of</strong> Biological, Chemical and Physical<br />
Sciences <strong>of</strong>fers traditional Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science (B.S.)<br />
degrees in each area <strong>of</strong> biology, chemistry and physics,<br />
as well as interdisciplinary B.S. degrees in Biochemistry<br />
(beginning in 2007 pending approval) and Molecular<br />
Biochemistry and Biophysics (M.B.B.). All five programs<br />
serve as a solid foundation for entry into graduate and<br />
medical schools and for jobs in both the government<br />
and the private sector. They are also designed to fulfill<br />
the requirements for our special medical and optometry<br />
degree programs.<br />

The department also provides specialized B.S. degree programs<br />
that integrate the sciences with law, business, and<br />
secondary education. These include programs which <strong>of</strong>fer<br />
joint admission to IIT’s Chicago-Kent College <strong>of</strong> Law, the<br />
Stuart School <strong>of</strong> Business Financial Markets Program,<br />
and the Department <strong>of</strong> Mathematics and Science<br />
Education.<br />
