IIT’s library system includes Paul V. Galvin Library;<br />

the Center for the Study <strong>of</strong> Ethics in the Pr<strong>of</strong>essions<br />

Library (Main Campus), the Graham Resource Center<br />

(Main Campus); the Louis W. Biegler Library (Rice<br />

Campus); the Downtown Campus Library, serving the<br />

Chicago-Kent College <strong>of</strong> Law and the Stuart School <strong>of</strong><br />

Business; University Archives (Main Campus); and the<br />

National Center for Food Safety & <strong>Technology</strong> Library<br />

As the university’s central library, Paul V. Galvin Library<br />

combines a unique blend <strong>of</strong> cutting-edge information<br />

technology with traditional library services. The library’s<br />

holdings include approximately 980,000 volumes, including<br />

books, printed journals, government publications,<br />

and micr<strong>of</strong>orms. This collection supports all <strong>of</strong> IIT’s major<br />

academic programs except law and architecture which<br />

are housed in other IIT libraries. Digital library services<br />

provide 24-hour internet access to more than 100 electronic<br />

databases, indexing millions <strong>of</strong> journal articles;<br />

approximately 19,000 full-text electronic journals; electronic<br />

course reserves; CARLI, which provides access to<br />

the online catalogs <strong>of</strong> 65 university libraries; and OCLC<br />

interlibrary loan services. Additionally, Galvin Library<br />

provides web-based delivery <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> materials,<br />

including documents requested via interlibrary loan.<br />

The Library’s Instruction and Outreach Program serves<br />

the IIT community by teaching skills needed to locate,<br />

retrieve, and evaluate information. Library instructors<br />

teach at all levels from introductory to advanced and<br />

cover a broad range <strong>of</strong> types <strong>of</strong> information and retrieval<br />

techniques. Workshops are available on a drop-in basis<br />

or can be scheduled in advance and can be specifically<br />

tailored for a course or program.<br />

Graham Resource Center<br />

The Graham Resource Center (GRC) is a branch <strong>of</strong><br />

IIT’s Paul V. Galvin Library serving the College <strong>of</strong><br />

Architecture. The GRC houses books, journals, images,<br />

maps, and architecture-related special collections. The<br />

GRC is found on the lower level <strong>of</strong> S.R. Crown Hall.<br />

The Louis W. Biegler Library on the Rice Campus in<br />

Wheaton, provides access to a small circulating collection,<br />

reference materials, and journals, as well as digital<br />

access to all <strong>of</strong> the databases subscribed to by Galvin<br />

Library. Services include interlibrary loan, electronic<br />

reserves, web-based document delivery, research<br />

consultations, and library instruction.<br />

Center contains a variety <strong>of</strong> materials dealing with topics<br />

in practical and pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics, such as autonomy,<br />

confidentiality, conflict <strong>of</strong> interest, and self regulation.<br />

Besides collections in law, business and social sciences,<br />

this Downtown Library includes the Library <strong>of</strong><br />

International Relations, an <strong>of</strong>ficial depository<br />

National Center for Food Safety<br />

Located on IIT’s M<strong>of</strong>fett Campus, the NCFST Library<br />

supports research on food technology and food safety.<br />

It is a depository library for the FAO (Food and<br />

Agriculture Organization <strong>of</strong> the United Nations),<br />

and provides digital access to all <strong>of</strong> the databases<br />

subscribed to by Galvin Library.
