NS 310<br />
Evolution <strong>of</strong> Warfare<br />
A survey <strong>of</strong> all military history<br />
designed to provide the student with<br />
a basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> the art and concepts<br />
<strong>of</strong> warfare and its evolution<br />
from the beginning <strong>of</strong> recorded history<br />
to the present. Included within<br />
this study is a consideration <strong>of</strong> the<br />
influence that leadership, political,<br />
economic, sociological and technological<br />
factors have had on warfare and<br />
the influence they will continue to<br />
exert in the age <strong>of</strong> limited warfare.<br />
Prerequisite: Consent <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

Leadership and Management<br />
This course teaches leadership and<br />
management skills to young leaders.<br />
These include strategic and tactical<br />
planning, time-management, communication,<br />

A Seminar on Wartime Leadership and Ethics<br />
A seminar on leadership and ethics<br />
during war. Students learn the fundamentals<br />
necessary for them to evaluate<br />
wartime decisions made by U.S.<br />
Presidents, Cabinet Secretaries, and<br />
Military Commanders at all levels.<br />
Appropriate for students seeking military<br />
or civilian careers. Seminar discussion<br />
focus on evaluating historical<br />
case studies. Papers and exams evaluate<br />
current wartime events.<br />

NS 410<br />
Amphibious Warfare<br />
The course is designed to provide the<br />
student with a historical survey <strong>of</strong><br />
the evolution <strong>of</strong> amphibious warfare.<br />
An in-depth survey <strong>of</strong> amphibious<br />
landings is concluded with a study <strong>of</strong><br />
the development <strong>of</strong> modern amphibious<br />
doctrine. Emphasis is placed on<br />
case studies <strong>of</strong> WW II: Pacific landing<br />
operations and Allied landings in<br />
North Africa, Northern Europe and<br />
Italy. Prerequisite: Consent <strong>of</strong><br />

Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Language<br />
An analysis <strong>of</strong> the concept <strong>of</strong> language<br />
in both the works <strong>of</strong> philosophers and<br />
the works <strong>of</strong> linguists. The course<br />
looks into theories <strong>of</strong> linguistic meaning,<br />
sentence structure, speech acts<br />
and the assumptions underlying<br />
research in modern linguistics.<br />
