INTM 432<br />

Vendor/Customer Relations<br />

Relations with customers and vendors<br />

constitute a critical aspect <strong>of</strong><br />

company pr<strong>of</strong>itability. The course<br />

pursues such topics as appropriate<br />

involvement <strong>of</strong> customers and vendors<br />

in product development, as well<br />

as price and contract negotiations.<br />

INTM 434<br />

Industrial Futures<br />

This course allows a futuristic view <strong>of</strong><br />

industrial establishments <strong>of</strong> interest<br />

to the student and MT staff, who must<br />

work to develop individual or group<br />

project. Prerequisite: Completion <strong>of</strong><br />

five 300-level INTM courses. (3-0-3)<br />

Supply Chain Management<br />

This course covers the full range <strong>of</strong><br />

activities involved in the supply<br />

chain. This includes management<br />

tools for optimizing <strong>of</strong> supply chains,<br />

relationships with other parts <strong>of</strong> the<br />

organization, in-house versus third<br />

party approaches, and suitable performance<br />

measurements. Topics covered<br />

include: Warehouse<br />

Management Systems (WMS),<br />

Transportation Management<br />

Systems (TMS), Advanced Planning<br />

and Scheduling Systems (APS), as<br />

well as cost benefit analysis to determine<br />

the most appropriate approach.<br />

INTM 442<br />

Warehousing and Distribution<br />

This course covers warehouse layout<br />

and usage based on product requirements<br />

such as refrigeration, hazardous<br />

material, staging area, and<br />

value added activities. Processes covered<br />

include receiving, put-away,<br />

replenishment, picking and packing.<br />

The requirement for multiple trailer/rail<br />

car loading and unloading is<br />

considered as well as equipment<br />

needed for loading, unloading, and<br />

storage. Computer systems for managing<br />

the operations are reviewed.<br />

Emphasis is on material handling<br />

from warehouse arrival through<br />

warehouse departure. Prerequisite:<br />

Export/Import Management<br />

Internationalization <strong>of</strong> industry<br />

requires special expertise and knowledge,<br />

which must be taken into consideration<br />

throughout all interactions<br />

with overseas companies either<br />

as customers or suppliers. Topics covered<br />

include custom clearance, bonded<br />

shipping, international shipping<br />

options, import financing and letters<br />

<strong>of</strong> credit, customer regulations,<br />

insurance, import duties and trade<br />

restrictions, exchange rates, and<br />

dealing with different cultures.<br />

INTM 477<br />

Entrepreneurship in Industry<br />

This course is available to all students<br />

interested in manufacturing<br />

and the activities that support manufacturing<br />

including logistics, business,<br />

facilities and engineering. The<br />

emphasis will be on the role <strong>of</strong> entrepreneurship<br />

in existing manufacturing<br />

and related industries as well as<br />

in start-up companies. Since manufacturing<br />

and related industrial<br />

activities represent over 30% <strong>of</strong> the<br />

economy, the economic future <strong>of</strong> the<br />

nation depends on the health <strong>of</strong> this<br />

sector. The objective <strong>of</strong> this course is<br />

to provide the skills to the students<br />

to introduce innovation and entrepreneurship<br />

in manufacturing and the<br />

industry that supports it. (3-0-3)<br />

IPRO 497<br />

Interpr<strong>of</strong>essional Project (IPRO)<br />

The interpr<strong>of</strong>essional project (IPRO)<br />

course develops the knowledge and<br />

skills <strong>of</strong> students in teamwork, leadership,<br />

and project management<br />

while working in multidisciplinary<br />

teams on open-ended problem solving<br />

projects involving technical, ethical,<br />

environmental, economic, public policy,<br />

and legal issues. Students also<br />

gain experience in a wide range <strong>of</strong><br />

communication methods and choose<br />

from a range <strong>of</strong> IPRO project experiences<br />

that apply one or more<br />

methodologies associated with<br />

research, design, process improvement,<br />

service learning, entrepreneurship<br />

and international engagement.<br />

IPRO project experiences are a<br />

proven way to enhance a student's<br />

resume and credentials in recruiting.<br />

IPRO project team sections typically<br />

have 12 members, but may range<br />

from 5 to 20 depending on the scope<br />

<strong>of</strong> the project. Students on a team<br />

may range from sophomore to graduate<br />

level and represent a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

disciplines and pr<strong>of</strong>essional programs<br />

that can broadly contribute to<br />

a project effort. Specific rules governing<br />

a student’s selection <strong>of</strong> IPRO<br />

course sections may apply in certain<br />

degree programs. Some projects may<br />

carry humanities or social sciences<br />

credit. Students should review the<br />

detailed IPRO Project listings at<br />
