Industrial Management and Planning<br />

Systems Safety<br />
Safety represents a major challenge<br />
for all industrial operations. This<br />
course covers human factor<br />
approaches along with the systems<br />
analyses required to implement safety<br />
systems in the workplace. Rules<br />

will be considered. Prerequisites:<br />

INTM 340<br />
Industrial Logistics<br />
Basic principles <strong>of</strong> transportation,<br />
distribution and logistics (TDL) in<br />
both the private and public sectors.<br />
TDL activities are the infrastructure<br />
that supports the overall economy,<br />
including the retail, service and construction<br />
sectors. TDL is also an<br />
IIT Undergraduate Bulletin 2006–2008<br />
integral aspect <strong>of</strong> the internal operations<br />
<strong>of</strong> all businesses. Topics covered<br />
include regulations, costs, and s<strong>of</strong>tware,<br />
as well as the interaction <strong>of</strong><br />
TDL functions with the overall enterprise.<br />

INTM 381<br />
Industrial Training Curriculum Development<br />
Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> curriculum development<br />
for adult learners are covered.<br />
Starting with a needs assessment,<br />
the students learn to analyze the<br />
training requirements. Based on this<br />
understanding, a syllabus for the<br />
training is developed and lesson<br />
plans prepared for covering the subject<br />
materials. Finally the students<br />
will be provided with tools to evaluate<br />
the success <strong>of</strong> the training.<br />
Assignments will require participants<br />
to apply the material covered<br />
to training situations within the participant’s<br />
area <strong>of</strong> expertise. (3-0-3)<br />
INTM 382<br />
Methods <strong>of</strong> Adult Training<br />
This course will <strong>of</strong>fer alterntive presentation<br />
methods based on the demographics<br />
and background <strong>of</strong> the target<br />
audience. Emphasis will be on<br />
understanding how adults learn as<br />
well as providing an introduction to<br />
the range <strong>of</strong> available educational<br />
technologies. Traditional approaches<br />
using lectures, slides, and video will<br />
be covered as well as the various<br />
interactive TV and web based<br />
options. Assignments will require<br />
demonstration <strong>of</strong> knowledge <strong>of</strong> and<br />
ability to use the range <strong>of</strong> tools and<br />

INTM 383<br />
Developing Training Programs<br />
This course will provide skills for the<br />
administration <strong>of</strong> training courses<br />
and/or programs. Coverage will<br />
include management <strong>of</strong> facilities and<br />
equipment including record keeping<br />
and budgeting. Preparation <strong>of</strong> proposals<br />
and reports will also be<br />
taught. The administrative and management<br />
skills required to work<br />
with various people within an organization<br />
will be covered. Finally techniques<br />
for recruiting students for the<br />
training program will be considered.<br />
