Part-Time Students<br />

Students who wish to enroll in less than 12 credit hours<br />

per semester are classified as part-time students. All<br />

undergraduate programs, except architecture, can be<br />

completed on a part-time basis, with both day and<br />

evening courses being <strong>of</strong>fered. The majority <strong>of</strong> courses in<br />

the following degree programs can be completed through<br />

evening classes:<br />

Application as a Degree-Seeking Part-Time Student<br />

Part-time students must meet the same admission<br />

requirements as full-time students. Students with previous<br />

college work will be evaluated by the same criteria<br />

used for full-time undergraduate transfer admission. (See<br />

page 12.) Students who have less than 30 hours <strong>of</strong> transferable<br />

college coursework may be required to submit<br />

high school transcripts and standardized test scores.<br />

Application as a Non-Degree-Seeking Student<br />

Applicants who are taking courses for the following<br />

reasons will be limited to part-time enrollment:<br />

• taking courses for pr<strong>of</strong>essional development;<br />

• taking courses prior to being admitted to a<br />

graduate program; or<br />

• taking courses to transfer to another institution.<br />

Campus Locations for Part-Time Students<br />

Part-time students can take courses at either the Main<br />

Campus or the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus in<br />

Wheaton, a Chicago suburb. The Main Campus has the<br />

most extensive <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>of</strong> day and evening classes. The<br />

Rice Campus <strong>of</strong>fers evening classes, most <strong>of</strong> which start at<br />

6:25 p.m. The majority <strong>of</strong> undergraduate courses taught<br />

at the Rice Campus are 300- and 400-level courses both<br />

Summer School Admission<br />

Students who attend another college or university and<br />

who wish to enroll for summer courses at IIT with the<br />

intention <strong>of</strong> transferring the credits to their home institution<br />

must submit the following to the Office <strong>of</strong><br />

Educational Services:<br />

• a Summer School Application;<br />

• a $30 application fee; and<br />

The graduation requirements for full- and part-time<br />

students are identical.<br />

Students who have not attended college must meet the<br />

high school requirements listed on page 11 and must submit<br />

high school transcripts and standardized test scores.<br />

Prospective students must submit the completed application,<br />

application fee, and <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts <strong>of</strong> all coursework<br />

to the Office <strong>of</strong> Educational Services.<br />

A non-degree-seeking student must be admitted to IIT.<br />

Admission is based on prerequisite coursework or other<br />

preparation necessary for the intended course. Nondegree<br />

seeking students follow the same application procedures<br />

as part-time degree-seeking students.<br />

IIT Online, which is IIT’s distance education unit delivering<br />

courses via Internet and IITV (a live interactive system<br />

linking classrooms with remote TV receiving sites), is<br />

another option for the part-time student. For additional<br />

• a transcript and/or a letter <strong>of</strong> good standing that indicates<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> the prerequisites for the requested<br />

courses at IIT.<br />

Additionally, students should check with their home<br />

institutions to determine the equivalencies for specific<br />

courses and the policies and procedures required to transfer<br />

IIT courses.
