Classification <strong>of</strong> Students<br />

Undergraduate admission to IIT is processed in two<br />

<strong>of</strong>fices, based on a student’s classification. Students should<br />

be aware <strong>of</strong> the correct <strong>of</strong>fice for application materials.<br />

The Office <strong>of</strong> Undergraduate Admission is responsible for<br />

admission decisions for all first-year (freshmen and transfer),<br />

full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates except ITM<br />

and INTM majors. To be full-time, a student must register<br />

for 12 or more credit hours each semester.<br />

All full-time, degree-seeking freshmen or transfer students<br />

Application as a Freshman<br />

IIT admits freshmen students on a rolling basis beginning<br />

in September, with most admission decisions having<br />

been made by mid-March. Students will be admitted after<br />

March if there are spaces available.<br />

Some honors programs and some scholarships have<br />

January deadlines. Students need to adhere to those<br />

deadlines stated in the admission or scholarship applications.<br />

Students have until May 1 (National Candidates’<br />

Reply Date) to accept IIT’s <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> admission. Students<br />

Obtaining Freshman Application<br />

Freshman applicants must submit a completed application,<br />

application fee or fee waiver, transcripts <strong>of</strong> all high<br />

schools attended, transcripts from all colleges attended<br />

(when applicable), standardized test scores, (ACT or SAT I)<br />

and a letter <strong>of</strong> recommendation. International students<br />

Standardized Test Scores for Freshman Applicants<br />

All students are required to submit scores from either<br />

the College Entrance Examination Board’s Scholastic<br />

Aptitude Test (SAT1/Reasoning) or the American College<br />

Test (ACT). The tests may be taken at any time, but<br />

preferably by the December testing date in the high<br />

admitted after May 1 will have two weeks from the<br />

receipt <strong>of</strong> their admission and/or financial aid award letters<br />

to respond to IIT’s <strong>of</strong>fer. To accept IIT’s <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong><br />

admission, a student must return the Enrollment<br />

Confirmation Form, which is sent to every admitted student,<br />

and a non-refundable matriculation deposit by the<br />

above dates. The deposit will be applied to the cost <strong>of</strong><br />

attendance.<br />

school senior year. Applicants for admission to the spring<br />

semester must have taken the SAT1/Reasoning or ACT<br />

by the preceding November. IIT recommends SAT2 tests<br />

in math and science, but does not require them for<br />

admission or scholarship applications.
