Psychology’s objective is to understand the manner in<br />
which organizations, human beings and animals behave,<br />
learn and interact, as well as the ways in which their<br />
behavior can be modified. The <strong>Institute</strong>’s curriculum<br />
encompasses the past 25 years’ worth <strong>of</strong> major changes<br />
in psychology and prepares students for modern careers<br />
in psychology or other allied pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />
The <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers a distinct program that is researchbased,<br />
human behavior-oriented and B.S. granting,<br />
blending the strengths <strong>of</strong> highly successful graduate programs<br />
in clinical, industrial/organizational, and<br />
rehabilitation psychology as well as options for honors<br />
pre-med and law. Designed for highly motivated, careeroriented<br />
students, this program emphasizes the<br />
integration <strong>of</strong> applied research with faculty, practical<br />
experience in pr<strong>of</strong>essional settings, and traditional classroom<br />
activities. It is characterized by faculty mentorship,<br />
individual advising, and group activities with faculty,<br />
graduate students, and other undergraduate students.<br />
The objectives <strong>of</strong> the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science degree program<br />
in psychology are:<br />

• To prepare students for baccalaureate level careers that<br />
draw on an understanding <strong>of</strong> human behavior<br />
(Students who have an interest in such areas as sports<br />
counseling, child care, disability, or human resources<br />
can include a preliminary preparation for those pr<strong>of</strong>essions<br />

• To provide a basic understanding <strong>of</strong> research methods<br />
in the behavioral sciences<br />
• To incorporate the recommendations <strong>of</strong> the American<br />
Psychological Association for undergraduate education<br />
in the four basic areas <strong>of</strong> social differences, individual<br />
differences, physiology, and learning and cognition<br />
The curriculum is flexible and supports students with<br />
diverse career goals. Most psychologists hold advanced<br />
degrees and the program <strong>of</strong>fers excellent preparation<br />
for graduate school. A bachelor’s degree in psychology<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers diverse options, including those in the burgeoning<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> geriatrics, health and sports counseling, behavioral<br />
medicine, and managed health care, as well as<br />
traditional settings such as schools, courts, hospitals,<br />
industries and research laboratories. Many students also<br />
will find psychology highly beneficial as a pre-pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
major for advanced studies in medicine, dentistry,<br />
law, business or public administration.<br />
