Jan 3 to Jan 9, 2018 Your Gay Desert Daily Guide Since 1994

Now celebrating our 23th year! 2018 will bring many changes for the entire nation and for us as a minority owned business, we will stand with you. Servicing the LGBT community has made us proud of who we are, in our community, our nation and the world at large. Once again this year’s gift, Free obituary's, help wanted ads, and everyone gets one free classified each year, from anywhere for anything to say anything non-bigoted but uncensored, a 30 word or less classified ad (Space permitting, some details apply. Emails only please.)

All Worlds Resorts
Easily the premier gay resort in the Palm
Springs area, and it draws crowds accordingly.
The hotel is situated at the gateway
to the “cruisy” Warm Sands neighborhood.
With the acquisition of the former
Inn Exile across the street now called All
World’s Annex, increased the property size
to nearly three and a half acres giving the
resort that much more space to cruise and
meet fun guys, since overnight guests get
access to both areas.
The 69 room hotel has six sparkling pools
and three hot tubs, community showers
and video social lounges are only the
beginning of what make up the mega All
Worlds Resorts that includes The Maze,
currently closed for extensive renovations,
will be “reopening soon,” and will run
from 9pm to 5am Fridays and Saturdays
and Sundays from 3pm to 11pm…
All World’s Sunday BBQ pool party with
live DJ music attracts up to a few hundred
“Day Pass” visitors every week. And when
the sun sets, All World’s comes alive with
guys looking for alternatives to the “bar
scene”.
Scott Swenson, General Manager of All
Worlds has always had the philosophy
of focusing on superior customer care.
Feeling that this philosophy is particular
important in Palm Springs because of the
many choices that one has. “I feel that if
the locals discover All Worlds they will be
sure to recommend us to their friends as a
place to stay when visiting the desert”.
So come on by and discover what all the
“buzz” is about at the largest gay resort in
Palm Springs!
Day passes are now available for $20 Monday
through Friday and $25 on weekends;
night passes are $20 Monday through
Thursday, $25 Friday through Sunday.
Towels and locks are $5. 760-323-7505
46 THE LAST WORD
These fireworks are over on the Las Vegas Strip, and
the eight-minute show launched from seven casino
rooftops to welcome 2018 was spectacular.
More than 300,000 visitors congregated on the Las
Vegas Strip to celebrate, and the festivities were
mostly jubilant and safe. Emergency management
officials labeled the evening as “very quiet.”
STEPHEN BAUMBACH
ECLECTIC PHOTOGRAPHER
We visited Stephen Baumbach in his
studio at the Back Street Galleries
during a First Wednesday Art Walk a
few weeks ago. Stephen has been interested
in and creating photos since he
was in high school. For the past 40 plus
years he has pursued his interest and
talent for photography. He has worked
in a variety of photography venues from
portrait photography to real estate photography
which has provided him the
commercial success to earn his living.
His work in these categories has been
recognized in magazine covers from
New England Distinctive Homes and
has received complimentary reviews for
his portrait photography. Some of the
people he photographed came to the
East Coast for the purpose of having
him create their portrait.
Stephen moved to the desert in 2014
where he has been photographing the
desert around us in ways that cause you
to see the desert with a different clarity.
He takes photos in wind and sand
storms, in sunsets where you see the
desert in a unique manner based on his
angles and lighting.
In his studio he continues to experiment
with time lapse photography from
liquids splashing to figures moving in
time. He is eclectic in his interests and
has created work, all of which is visually
stimulating, and scientifically curious
in content and photographic creativity.
You may view his work in his studio at
the Back Street Gallery and at his web
site Stephen Baumback Photography.
“Sing With Us”
Palm Springs Gay Men’s
Chorus
To Hold Auditions
Mid-year through its 19th Season, The
Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus (PSGMC)
will be holding open call auditions Tuesday,
January 9, 2018 at 7:00p.m. at Mizell Senior
Center, 480 South Sunrise Way in Palm
Springs. This special evening of camaraderie
will also be an opportunity to volunteer
and get involved with one of the chorus’
many committees. Interested singers can
also attend open rehearsals on Tuesdays,
January 16 and 23 at 7:00p.m. to get a feel
of what it’s like to perform with the chorus
and meet the members.
“In our continued effort to “Build a Chorus
Like No Other,” the PSGMC is always
committed to a high standard of excellence
in our performances. For this audition, we
will not only be recruiting singers for the
main chorus, but also for our small ensemble
group “The Arrangement.” It is an easy
and painless process with the main aspect
of the audition is that a singer is required to
match pitch,” said Douglas Wilson, Artistic
Director, PSGMC.
The mission of the PSGMC is to be a
chorus of gay men, who through musical
excellence, community outreach, and civic
responsibility, are dedicated to entertaining,
inspiring, and educating the culturally
diverse community in which we live.
For more information on meeting the
requirements and an application form, visit
https://psgmc.com/auditions/. For a variety
of ways to support the Palm Springs Gay
Men’s Chorus, visit www.PSGMC.com
The “Sing With Us” campaign stems from
the chorus’ tight knit group of men who are
passionate about performing and entertaining
at civic and private events throughout
the cities of the Coachella Valley.
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Well the New Year has arrived. The Desert
is fresh and crisp and as 2017 ended so 2018
began, Tweets.
Well the rest of us can think, easily, of a hundred
things the President of the United States
could do on the first day of the new year, the
Tweeter-in-Chief spent the day attacking the
governments of Pakistan and Iran, the former
head of the FBI, former President Obama,
and a former aide to Hillary Clinton. My oh
my, his index fingers must be tired and in
need of a massage.
He says he wants to do a bipartisan infrastructure
bill but I have yet to see him try to
even speak nice of a Democrat. Even Sen. Joe
Manchin of West Virginia, probably the most
likely Dem to support an initiative of the
President, has come under attack on social
media from Mr. Trump. Is there any question
left in ANYONE’S mind that is man is not
suited to be President and is probably in some
stage of mental deterioration?
to Southern CA as it relates to the ports and
good movement. He will be missed.
Locally, we should see financial reports on
various candidates for US House, CA Assembly
and Senate, and by the end of the month
candidates for city Council races throughout
the valley and County Supervisor. Look for
House candidate Dan Ball (R) and State Senate
candidate Joy Silver (D) to surprise folks.
It looks like there may also be a new candidate
for Governor! So far focus has been on
Gavin Newsom, John Chiang, Antonio Villaraigosa
and Delaine Eastin. Now it appears
that Congresswoman Jackie Speier may be
jumping in. She has $1.5 million in the bank
from her House campaign Committee that
could be transferred over so she can start the
campaign running. StatenDems are meeting
in San Diego Feb 23-25. Should be an interesting
convention.
Are you voting in 2018? Have you begun to
focus on that election? The primary is only 6
months away! I’d be interested to know who
have chose or are leaning to and why. Send
your comments to me at
Orin Hatch, Republican Senator from Utah
has announced his retirement after 20 +
years. I won’t miss him much, but he has been
fairly good on education and some HIV votes.
More troubling, to me, was the announcement
greg@gregpettis.com
that Congressman Bill Schuster (R-PA) 2017 showed a tremendous amount of orga-
is stepping down. He has served 18 years and nization and discipline in the opposition to
has been Chairman of the House Transportation
President Trump. We must continue to do
and Infrastructure Committee. I’ve had the same and even louder. The ineptitude
the privilege of working with the Congressman
and moral depravity is beyond the pale and
and his office on Transportation issues. certainly does nothing for our country.
He is smart, thorough in his analysis of the
issue and willing to work across the aisle on That’s all for this week. Keep RESISTING!!!
T&I concerns. He has been especially helpful
