Page 22 Medway & Millis Local Town Pages www.localtownpages.com January 2018 Millis MassBay Student Honored with Scholarship Millis resident and MassBay student Charles Santamaria was recently honored at MassBay Community College’s Fall Donor Dinner and Scholarship Awards night. Santamaria was honored with a Growth and Generosity Scholarship, one of $92,000 in scholarships awarded to 101 students at the school’s bi-annual Scholarship Awards ceremony. Among the students who received these scholarships are single mothers, veterans, first to go to college students, and many more who these scholarships makes all the difference. All donations made to the Mass- Bay Foundation go directly to students in the form of scholarships. MassBay holds two Donor Appreciation and Scholarship Awards nights each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Growth and Generosity Scholarship The donor of this scholarship believes that the key to life is growth and generosity. This scholarship was established to support a student who can demonstrate, through an essay, his/ her own growth and generosity and/or why they believe growth and generosity is important. $250 and $500 scholarships. Please read through each page carefully to ensure that all information is provided accurately. To complete registration through our secure site, please have your Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or checking account information available. Following the completion of this registration, you will see a charge on your account from Medway Youth Baseball. IMPORTANT CHANGES TO PAYMENT OPTIONS In an effort to make registering and paying easier for our families we are now offering an option to pay the cost of your registration over time. The payment schedule will be December thru May, and assuming you sign up before January 15th you will be paying 1/6 of the cost every month on the 15th with the first payment being when you register. The payments will be automatically charged to your credit card or bank account. If you sign up after January 15th you will have to make the missed December and January payments upon registering and will continue to pay 1/6 of the overall cost for the remaining four months. As we are a not-for-profit league we are passing on any additional costs for this optional service to those who choose to take advantage of it. The added cost will be $1.25 per month/payment. If you choose to pay in full, no additional processing costs will be added. Special Programs and Events at Millis COA for January: Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit: Senator Richard Ross will be here on Monday, January 29th at 11 a.m. Ross will be joined by Brian Lynch of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and Representative Shawn Dooley. The Senior Circuit Breaker is a tax credit for senior citizens whose property payments exceed 10% of their annual income. Eligible seniors will receive a credit on their Massachusetts tax return for every dollar that their total property tax, water and sewer bills exceed 10% of their income. A maximum $1,070 credit is available. Additionally, if the taxpayer hasn’t claimed the tax credit in the past, (s)he may claim it for the previous three years. Tasty Tuesday: eating alone is no fun. Diseases such as arthritis can make joints and bones stiff and can make an awkward position difficult, such as bringing your feet up for proper foot care. Poor vision also makes proper foot care hard. Dr. Cooper will be here on Wednesday, January 3rd from 9-11 to trim your toenails for you. $30. at the Center and $50. for a home visit. Appointments are on a first come-first served basis. Fuel Assistance Applications: These are now available at the Center. Income guidelines for FY18 are as follows: 1-person household $34,380, 2-person household $44,958, 3-member household $55,537. There are various requirements for different situations, so we strongly suggest you call the Center and speak to Carol LaFreniere so we may determine what documentation you will need. After gathering the required documentation, you will be required to have a sit-down meeting with Carol to complete the application. Appointments are necessary. Purple Hat Project ~ Calling All Knitters: Milford Hospital’s maternity ward needs knitted hats to help educate new parents about Shaken Baby Syndrome. Knitting pattern and a drop off box are located at the COA in room 21. The deadline is February 10, 2018. Jeanne is here every Thursday at 10 a.m. to teach these very popular dance moves. Options Counseling: When one faces the need for supportive services to help with basic activities such as personal care, household chores, transportation, nutrition or medication management, locating and evaluating options it can be a challenging task. The choices are varied and can feel overwhelming. Options Counselor Maria is here at the Center the last Wednesday of the month from 11-1. Computer Tutoring Appointments Available: Bob Bryant is taking appointments for all levels of computer tutoring on Thursdays between 10-12. From the novice to the experienced.
