Millis Lions Club Had a Busy December
Held Frosty 5K, 48th Senior Citizen Holiday Dinner
& Honored 50-Year Member David Noon
The Millis Lions Club had a
busy December in 2017.
On December 3, The Millis
Lions Club held their first annual
Frosty 5K run/walk to raise
money for local Millis Lions Club
charities to support those in need
in Millis.
The race, co-sponsored by
Encompass Fitness, started at 9
a.m., with more than 40+ participants
making their way through
the back streets of town dressed
in their best and silliest holiday
attire. This year’s race winners
were C.J. Stapels in first place
with Gene Storbeck second and
Gary Pollak coming in third. In
the children’s category Noah
Dayhoff was the winner with
Ella Maher coming in second
and Dillon and Ryan Fitzgerald
tying for third. Best holiday
costume was won by the mother
and son team of Delia and Erin
LeBlanc.
On December 5th, the Millis
Lions Club had the pleasure of
celebrating Lion David Noon for
his 50 years of service in the Millis
Lions Club.
With family, friends and Lions
from Millis and many other communities,
Massachusetts Lions’
District 33K Governor, Margaret
Menard, presented Dave with a
plaque acknowledging his dedication
to the Lions and to the
community of Millis.
Noon, (a former Millis resident,
now residing in Maine),
joined the Millis Lions Club in
October of 1967. Since then,
Dave has been a dedicated and
active Lion, responsible for spearheading
many of the events and

Millis Lions to help the citizens
of Millis and others around the
world. Dave is also an associate
member of the Medway Lions
Club, helping to form that club in
December of 1982. Dave served
as Club president in 1981-1982,
was Lion of the Year in 1975
and was awarded a Melvin Jones
Fellowship, the highest honor in
Lions, in 1996. The Club honored
Dave with a Lifetime membership
in 2005.
“Dave defines what it means
to be a Lion. His dedication to
the community of Millis and to
Lionism is unmatched. He has
been an inspiration to Lions
members in this Club, and in
Clubs all over the district,” said
District Governor, Margaret Menard
(Hyde Park Lions Club).
At Dave’s side every step of
the way has been his loving wife,
Carole. In 2016, Dave and Carole
retired to Maine to enjoy the
seashore and to be close to their
children and grandchildren.
On Sunday, December 10th,
The Millis Lions Club held their
annual Senior Citizen Holiday
Dinner and the Millis High
School. This annual event of the
Millis Lions Club is held each
December and is open to any
resident of Millis over the age of
60. There is no charge for the
meal.
More than 140+ guests dined
on a delicious pork roast complimented
by baked apples and
squash, red bliss roasted potatoes
courtesy of Ed Harutyunyan,
owner of Budabings, and the
afternoon was topped-off with
delicious cake donated by Roche
Brothers.
For 48 years, this annual holiday
meal has been prepared by
the superb Millis Lions’ culinary
staff, and served by Millis Lions
dressed in black slacks, white
shirts and holiday red cummerbunds.
Assisting the Lions on
Sunday were members of the
Millis High School Leo Club,
the youth arm of Lions Clubs
Millis Lion David Noon was
honored on December 5, 2017 for
50 years of service with the Lions
Club.
International and members of
the MHS student government.
Decorations were provided by
the MHS Art Club. The Millis
High School Band and chorus
performed holiday classics and
the afternoon was concluded
with an “Elfin Raffle.”
“This is our Club’s favorite
event. We all come together to
bring joy and happiness to our
seniors…, “ said Noreen Brown,
Millis Lions Club president.
The Millis Lions would like to
extend a very special thank you to
Dave DLaferrierre, manager of
Ann and Hope, who donated a
live 7’ Balsam Pine tree and stand
for this event. The Millis Lions
decorate the tree every year and
donate the tree and trimmings to
a family in need who lives in Millis;
and to Roche Bros of Millis for
their continued outstanding support
and generosity.

Millis Lions first “Frosty 5K” to
benefit residents of the town in
need.
