<strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club Had a Busy December<br />

Held Frosty 5K, 48th Senior Citizen Holiday Dinner<br />

& Honored 50-Year Member David Noon<br />

The <strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club had a<br />

busy December in 2017.<br />

On December 3, The <strong>Millis</strong><br />

Lions Club held their first annual<br />

Frosty 5K run/walk to raise<br />

money for local <strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club<br />

charities to support those in need<br />

in <strong>Millis</strong>.<br />

The race, co-sponsored by<br />

Encompass Fitness, started at 9<br />

a.m., with more than 40+ participants<br />

making their way through<br />

the back streets of town dressed<br />

in their best <strong>and</strong> silliest holiday<br />

attire. This year’s race winners<br />

were C.J. Stapels in first place<br />

with Gene Storbeck second <strong>and</strong><br />

Gary Pollak coming in third. In<br />

the children’s category Noah<br />

Dayhoff was the winner with<br />

Ella Maher coming in second<br />

<strong>and</strong> Dillon <strong>and</strong> Ryan Fitzgerald<br />

tying for third. Best holiday<br />

costume was won by the mother<br />

<strong>and</strong> son team of Delia <strong>and</strong> Erin<br />

LeBlanc.<br />

On December 5th, the <strong>Millis</strong><br />

Lions Club had the pleasure of<br />

celebrating Lion David Noon for<br />

his 50 years of service in the <strong>Millis</strong><br />

Lions Club.<br />

With family, friends <strong>and</strong> Lions<br />

from <strong>Millis</strong> <strong>and</strong> many other communities,<br />

Massachusetts Lions’<br />

District 33K Governor, Margaret<br />

Menard, presented Dave with a<br />

plaque acknowledging his dedication<br />

to the Lions <strong>and</strong> to the<br />

community of <strong>Millis</strong>.<br />

Noon, (a former <strong>Millis</strong> resident,<br />

now residing in Maine),<br />

joined the <strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club in<br />

October of 1967. Since then,<br />

Dave has been a dedicated <strong>and</strong><br />

active Lion, responsible for spearheading<br />

many of the events <strong>and</strong><br />

Dinner on December 10 th , 2017, with help from the <strong>Millis</strong> Leo’s Club,<br />

the MHS Art Club, MHS B<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> MHS Chorus <strong>and</strong> several generous<br />

sponsors in town.<br />

<strong>Millis</strong> Lions to help the citizens<br />

of <strong>Millis</strong> <strong>and</strong> others around the<br />

world. Dave is also an associate<br />

member of the <strong>Medway</strong> Lions<br />

Club, helping to form that club in<br />

December of 1982. Dave served<br />

as Club president in 1981-1982,<br />

was Lion of the Year in 1975<br />

<strong>and</strong> was awarded a Melvin Jones<br />

Fellowship, the highest honor in<br />

Lions, in 1996. The Club honored<br />

Dave with a Lifetime membership<br />

in 2005.<br />

“Dave defines what it means<br />

to be a Lion. His dedication to<br />

the community of <strong>Millis</strong> <strong>and</strong> to<br />

Lionism is unmatched. He has<br />

been an inspiration to Lions<br />

members in this Club, <strong>and</strong> in<br />

Clubs all over the district,” said<br />

District Governor, Margaret Menard<br />

(Hyde Park Lions Club).<br />

At Dave’s side every step of<br />

the way has been his loving wife,<br />

Carole. In 2016, Dave <strong>and</strong> Carole<br />

retired to Maine to enjoy the<br />

seashore <strong>and</strong> to be close to their<br />

children <strong>and</strong> gr<strong>and</strong>children.<br />

On Sunday, December 10th,<br />

The <strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club held their<br />

annual Senior Citizen Holiday<br />

Dinner <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Millis</strong> High<br />

School. This annual event of the<br />

<strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club is held each<br />

December <strong>and</strong> is open to any<br />

resident of <strong>Millis</strong> over the age of<br />

60. There is no charge for the<br />

meal.<br />

More than 140+ guests dined<br />

on a delicious pork roast complimented<br />

by baked apples <strong>and</strong><br />

squash, red bliss roasted potatoes<br />

owner of Budabings, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

afternoon was topped-off with<br />

delicious cake donated by Roche<br />

Brothers.<br />

For 48 years, this annual holiday<br />

meal has been prepared by<br />

the superb <strong>Millis</strong> Lions’ culinary<br />

staff, <strong>and</strong> served by <strong>Millis</strong> Lions<br />

dressed in black slacks, white<br />

shirts <strong>and</strong> holiday red cummerbunds.<br />

Assisting the Lions on<br />

Sunday were members of the<br />

<strong>Millis</strong> High School Leo Club,<br />

the youth arm of Lions Clubs<br />

<strong>Millis</strong> Lion David Noon was<br />

honored on December 5, 2017 for<br />

50 years of service with the Lions<br />

Club.<br />

International <strong>and</strong> members of<br />

the MHS student government.<br />

Decorations were provided by<br />

the MHS Art Club. The <strong>Millis</strong><br />

High School B<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> chorus<br />

performed holiday classics <strong>and</strong><br />

the afternoon was concluded<br />

with an “Elfin Raffle.”<br />

“This is our Club’s favorite<br />

event. We all come together to<br />

bring joy <strong>and</strong> happiness to our<br />

seniors…, “ said Noreen Brown,<br />

<strong>Millis</strong> Lions Club president.<br />

The <strong>Millis</strong> Lions would like to<br />

extend a very special thank you to<br />

Dave DLaferrierre, manager of<br />

Ann <strong>and</strong> Hope, who donated a<br />

live 7’ Balsam Pine tree <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong><br />

for this event. The <strong>Millis</strong> Lions<br />

decorate the tree every year <strong>and</strong><br />

donate the tree <strong>and</strong> trimmings to<br />

a family in need who lives in <strong>Millis</strong>;<br />

<strong>and</strong> to Roche Bros of <strong>Millis</strong> for<br />

their continued outst<strong>and</strong>ing support<br />

<strong>and</strong> generosity.<br />

C.J. Stapels was the winner of the<br />

<strong>Millis</strong> Lions first “Frosty 5K” to<br />

benefit residents of the town in<br />

need.<br />
