I hope you had a great Christmas
and that the New Year will bring with it
everything you hope and wish for.
I’m delighted to say that this year’s been
one of our busiest ever festive periods, flying
tens of thousands of customers all over our
network to spend time with their friends and
loved ones. This doesn’t mean that all the
fun and celebrations have to stop though.
While the holiday season may be coming
to an end, we, at Aurigny, are excited to
mark a very special year for the airline, our
50th anniversary. That’s right, all the way back
in 1968, Aurigny was born and took to the
skies for the very first time. It was on 1 March
to be precise. Our first commercial flight
between Alderney and Guernsey, all thanks
to our founder, the late Sir Derrick Bailey.
And as this is such a significant milestone
for the airline, we want the whole
community to get involved and help us
celebrate in style. We have a whole host
of community-based activities, events and
special competitions planned and we hope
people of all ages, across the Bailiwick, will
join us in marking this special year. More
information about our 50 years is available
on pages 8-9 and please look out for further
details in the coming weeks and months
about how you can play your part.
While, we may be reaching the big
‘five-0’ we are not looking to slow down
and have plenty of other exciting plans
for 2018 and many years to come.
2018 is going to be an exciting year for
Guernsey in many ways as it marks the
release of the much-anticipated film of
‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel
Society’, read more on pages 18-21. I’m
sure this will help to attract more people
to the Bailiwick and help us showcase
what a special place it is to live and visit.
If you’re new to the islands, this edition
features the first of a three-part series
on the island of Sark on pages 22-26
and we also have a great guide for how
best to spend ‘48 hours in Guernsey.’
For those looking to ‘kick-start’ the New Year
with a short break or holiday away from the
island, there are great options right across our
network, no matter what your age or interests.
In this edition of our magazine we’ve got all
you need to know about family attractions
in Manchester (pages 52-55). But if snow
and slopes are more your thing, turn over
to pages 58-60 to discover more about

We are incredibly proud to have
served so many loyal customers over
the last 50 years and hope to continue
for many more decades to come.
