II-listed Abbey Mill. Food is local and seasonal,<br />

Laverstoke buffalo mozzarella with heirloom<br />

A few minutes’ walk from Winchester Cathedral, Tom’s<br />

Deli, part delicatessen, part café-restaurant, is the place<br />

to head for delicious, Italian classics. Plenty of pizzas<br />

and paninis are served alongside hearty pasta dishes<br />

and homemade tiramisu and cannoli. The eatery’s<br />

delicatessen is the ideal spot to stock up on authentic<br />

THE CHESIL RECTORY<br />

This beautiful restaurant, located in a 600-year-old<br />

Grade II-listed medieval building, serves modern<br />

British cuisine. Highlights include Blackmoor pigeon<br />

with onion confit, <strong>En</strong>glish feta or Cobley Farm lamb,<br />

sweetbreads and salt-baked beetroot with black garlic<br />

glaze, which are best washed down with a selection<br />

from The Chesil Rectory’s exciting wine list. Mains<br />

Winchester’s only Michelin Star establishment, The<br />

Black Rat offers modern British fare, with a seasonal<br />

and constantly evolving menu. Try chalk stream trout,<br />

Cornish crab, avocado and cucumber with sweet corn<br />

and yuzu, or heritage beetroot, buratta, orzo, baby<br />

gem with hazelnut, celeriac. Three courses range from<br />
