DINOSAURS IN THE WILD
If you’re heading to Manchester with
youngsters, Trafford Park and Salford Quays
areas have you well and truly covered.
The flight to Manchester is a little under 90
minutes. We made the most of Aurigny’s luggage
allowance by taking our own car seats and at the
other end we picked up a hire car – a modest £50
Hertz booking – and set off for central Manchester
and our first port of call; the fantastic Dinosaurs in
the Wild at Event City.
I don’t know exactly what I was expecting but
Dinosaurs in the Wild far exceeded anything
I’d imagined. There were plenty of moments
where we had to remind our five and three-year
olds that it wasn’t real, such was the authenticity
of the props, staging and dinosaurs on the 3D
screens. Three-year-old Reuben came away
so convinced it was all real and was desperate
to tell anyone and everyone all about it.
I don’t want to give away too much of what happens
but this immersive experience is up there with any
Orlando theme park offering, and the flights to get
there are much cheaper. Check out page 29 to find
out where this fantastic attraction is heading next.
The afternoon on our first day was spent inside
the Intu Trafford Centre which, if you’ve not looked
at the floor map before heading in, could be a bit
of a minefield with little people in tow. There is,
however, tonnes to entertain the whole family.
We made our way to the Lego Discovery Centre,
which is attached to the Trafford Centre. The
whole centre is a hands-on children’s (and adult)
paradise with areas to build and run your Lego cars
as well as moving Lego displays, building tables
galore and even entire pits of Lego you can literally
sit in and construct to your heart’s content.
Poppy was rather chuffed to find a 4’ high Buzz
Lightyear made entirely of Lego and Reuben wasn’t
disappointed with Lego’s Ninjago franchise stars
also immortalised in multi-coloured blockwork.
