FROM GUERNSEY
GATWICK
CONNECTS
With so many flights from which
to choose, it’s easy to plan
your trip from Guernsey.
If you catch the earliest Aurigny flight
to Gatwick you can be in Dublin in
time for lunch, and the 12:50 Aer
Lingus return will give you bags of
time to get back to Guernsey.
Of course, if you’re planning a short
break you might prefer to leave Dublin
at 19:10 and stay overnight at Gatwick.
Looking for a quick and easy way to
transfer your luggage?
For hassle-free transfers of your baggage
from Aurigny to onward destinations, and
even your onward boarding card, why
not try out the flight connections service,
There’s no better way to start the day than with
an Ulster Fry: a feast of black and white pudding,
bacon, sausages, tomato and potato farls. Potatoes
proudly feature in a number of dishes, such as champ,
fadge, boxty and colcannon. Farmers’ markets are an
important part of the Irish food scene – Naas Farmers’
Market in County Kildare is on every Saturday from
10am-3pm and includes organic produce from the
Wicklow hills, fresh breads and farmhouse cheeses.
Ireland is famous for its whiskey and you can’t
beat sampling it at its source. Old Bushmills in
County Antrim is the oldest whiskey distillery on
the island whilst the Old Jameson Distillery in
Dublin was recently refurbished and offers three
guided experiences, all of which have a focus on
immersive storytelling – and tasting, naturally.
WHAT TO DO
Dublin is a multicultural, creative hub and in 2010 it
was designated as a UNESCO City of Literature. The
city’s most popular attraction for visitors, however, is
the Guinness Storehouse. Located in the heart of the
St James’s Gate Brewery, this seven-storey building is
dedicated to the history of the making of the worldfamous
beer. Learn how to pour the perfect pint, step
into the imaginative world of Guinness advertising and
finish off at the Gravity Bar, enjoying panoramic views
with a complimentary pint in hand.
The Dublin Discovery Trails are a series of free selfguided
walking trails, helping you to explore the city’s
history, architecture and hidden treasures. Dublin
Castle, Christ Church Cathedral and the Irish Museum
of Modern Art are all highlights not to be missed.
To appreciate Ireland’s diverse landscape, you need
to venture out of the city. The Wicklow Mountains offer
a spectacular contrast to city life, whilst further afield
lie the romantic-sounding counties of Galway, Clare,
Limerick and Kerry. Galway is home to Connemara’s
mountains, lakes, beaches and pretty villages; the
craggy coastline traversed by the Ring of Kerry is
another major attraction, but all of Ireland’s coast is a
joy, especially if you love to walk, cycle or horse ride.
It takes around two hours to drive from Dublin to
Belfast, which is a lively city well worth visiting. From its
mighty shipbuilding past – Titanic Belfast is a majestic
building standing on the very site where the Titanic
was built – to the thriving arts scene centred in the
Cathedral Quarter, Belfast has history, culture and a
wonderful culinary reputation.
Game of Thrones® has become part of Northern
Ireland’s story: as one of the key filming locations for
the hit show, the real-world Westeros is ready to be
explored. The Game of Thrones® tapestry is a 77-metre
long work of art that brings to life the events, locations
and story of this popular series. Currently on display
at the Ulster Museum in Belfast, a new section will be
added every week for the duration of season 7.
There’s too much to see and do in Ireland to do it
justice in one visit, but it’s so easy to get there from
Gatwick, you’ll soon be planning your next trip.
