EXPERIENCE – LIVING OFF THE LAND<br />

10am-4pm 29 April<br />

Discover what it was like to live off the land<br />

during the Occupation at the Victorian Walled<br />

Garden, Saumarez Park. Read personal stories<br />

about food from people who lived in Guernsey<br />

during the War. Taste the dishes that have been<br />

recreated from original recipes. Plenty to do<br />

for everyone both inside and outside including<br />

competitions, games, live musical entertainment,<br />

food stalls and indulge yourselves in our version<br />

of the Roast Pig Dinner and Potato Peel Pie.<br />

WALK – THE GERMAN DEFENCES<br />

OF ST SAMPSON<br />

10am-12pm 29 April<br />

Starting from Vale Castle, this tour of the Bridge and<br />

surrounding areas focuses on WW2 fortifications. Tour<br />

includes Mont Crevelt Fort, previously not open to the<br />

general public.<br />

WEEKLONG EVENT – SHIP AND CROWN<br />

GOES BACK TO 1940<br />

Step back in time and experience the 1940s by<br />

visiting what was once ‘The Crown Hotel’, one of<br />

the locations referenced in The Guernsey Literary<br />

and Potato Peel Pie Society. Now a popular<br />

pub, it was also the German Naval Headquarters<br />

during the Occupation. The staff will all dress in<br />

1940s clothes for this special themed week and<br />

will feature traditional Guernsey food, real ales<br />

and plenty of Potato Peel Pie, as well as many<br />

more events and activities over the week.<br />

DINNER – OCCUPATION THEMED<br />

DINNER AT THE BELLA LUCE HOTEL<br />

7.30pm 4 May<br />

Dress in your finest 40s clothes and enjoy a night of<br />

locally-produced gin tasting and a luxurious spin on<br />

an Occupation menu. Features Wheadon’s Gin and<br />

a menu based on the foundations of The Guernsey<br />

Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society book.<br />

TALK – MOLLY BIHET – A CHILD’S WAR<br />

2pm Bank Holiday 7 May<br />

Join local author Molly Bihet at Les Cotils, as she<br />

talks about her first-hand experience of life under<br />

German rule during the Occupation of the island.<br />
