CREATE
YOUR OWN
STORY IN
GUERNSEY
GUERNSEY IS SET TO BE STAR OF THE SILVER SCREEN IN 2018,
THANKS TO THE FILM ADAPTATION OF BESTSELLING NOVEL,
THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY.
Guernsey has long provided inspiration to visitors and
is now the birthplace of the international bestselling
book, ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie
Society’. Penned by Mary Ann Shaffer and completed
by her niece, Annie Barrows, the book tells the
island’s story under German Occupation, through
a series of letters. Mary Ann travelled to Guernsey
on a whim in 1980 but found herself stranded on
the island due to fog. She picked up a book about
the island’s wartime past, and was completely
hooked. You could say the rest was history.
The book has now been adapted into a feature
film, set for release on 20 April 2018. Directed by
Mike Newell (who directed the blockbuster film Four
Weddings and a Funeral), and starring Hollywood
A-listers Lily James (Cinderella, Downton Abbey) and
Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), the spirited
story sets the scene of the lead character’s journey
of self-discovery and fascination for the island.
Learn more about the extraordinary true-life
events that inspired the story, experience the
warmth and friendliness of the locals, visit the
charming places that feature in the book and walk
in the footsteps of the characters as though they’re
stepping through the pages of the novel itself.
Make 2018 the year you visit our glorious island,
and create your own story in Guernsey.
