YOUNG CHEF THROUGH TO REGIONALS
AURIGNY NEWS
A budding chef from Guernsey’s
Blanchelande College will represent
the Bailiwick in the Rotary Young
Chef of the Year competition.
Sophie Charmley will compete
in the UK regional after being
crowned the champion locally in
a hotly contested competition.
She competed against 12
students from Guernsey and
Alderney, at the College of Further
Education, winning the day with
a menu of poached egg on
toast, seabass on chive mash and
pavlovas with Guernsey cream.
Aurigny was one of the sponsors
of the competition, by providing
complimentary flights for the
Alderney competitors. We also
gave free travel to the competition’s
head chef, Steve Bacon, as he
headed to Alderney to provide
training sessions, including Food
Hygiene, and oversaw the island’s
preliminary competition.
AURIGNY WINS AT
TRAVEL AWARDS
We’re delighted to have been
ranked the world’s third best shorthaul
airline in the 2017 Telegraph
Travel Awards, thanks to the
positive feedback of our customers.
Finishing the year on a high,
Aurigny was the highest ranking
British airline, and came just
behind Swiss and Icelandair in
the standings, compiled by the
UK newspaper. It comes less
than a year after we scooped
second place in the annual
Which? Magazine best short haul/
economy airline survey. It also
betters its fourth-place finish in the
2016 Telegraph Travel Awards.
The competition was also
sponsored by the Co-op, which
covered the food costs.
The Guernsey competition was
judged by Aurigny’s PR Manager
Paul Ainsworth, Tanya Dorrity from
the Co-op, Charlotte Jones from
Environmental Health and catering
professional Paul Wilson.
‘All the students should be very
proud of their efforts. The standard
of the food and the presentation
of the dishes was just outstanding.
They have shown some incredible
skills at such a young age,’ said Paul.
Aurigny achieved the highest
ranking of four British and Irish
airlines to make the top ten, with
Jet2 in fourth place, Aer Lingus in
ninth and CityJet in tenth.
Aurigny CEO Mark Darby, said it
was a really positive way to end 2017.
‘These rankings are based on the
views and opinions of the people
who matter most, our travelling
public, so third place is a great
achievement and it’s great to see
we came out on top of all the
British airlines.
‘None of this would be possible
without the hard work and
dedication of everyone here at
Aurigny, so I’d like to say a big
public thank you to all our staff for
their tireless efforts.’
