ISLAND THEY LOVE FOR BARCLAYS’<br />

MORTGAGES CAMPAIGN<br />

Two amateur photographers’<br />

works are now the centrepiece<br />

to Barclays’ mortgage advertising<br />

campaign in the Channel Islands.<br />

were selected as the winners by<br />

Barclays judging panel following<br />

a competition to find an image<br />

that represented the best of<br />

both islands. Their photographs<br />

are being used in advertising<br />

Barclays’ mortgage products<br />

across different media.<br />

The brief was simple: take a<br />

photograph of a favourite place<br />

on Guernsey and Jersey and<br />

share it on social media, with<br />

the hashtag ‘#IslandILove.’ The<br />

competition also ran in the<br />

Isle of Man and a winner was<br />

selected for each island from<br />

several hundred entries.<br />

Zedra has held a Masterchefstyle<br />

competition as part of its<br />

fundraising for BBC’s Children<br />

in Need.<br />

Two of the best cooks from the<br />

company were pitted against<br />

one another in the final round of<br />

a cooking competition.<br />

Charlotte Robert was chosen as<br />

the winner after she completed<br />

a series of challenges alongside<br />

fellow finalist Liz Carre.<br />

‘I am really happy to have<br />

won and very surprised,’ said<br />

Charlotte. ‘I didn't think I would<br />

win against Liz, especially when<br />

one of the challenges was to<br />

cook with unknown ingredients.’<br />

on the winner and Managing<br />

Director Julian Sharpe said the<br />

competition showed part of<br />

Zedra’s social side.<br />

‘Everyone had a chance to<br />

get involved and it has been<br />

something that people have been<br />

seeming to really enjoy,’ he said.<br />

Canaccord Genuity Wealth<br />

Management, a three-time headline<br />

sponsor of the Guernsey Marathon,<br />

has donated 45 t-shirts gifted or<br />

leftover from the event to the<br />

Tumaini Fund.<br />

The Tumaini Fund is a Guernseyregistered<br />

charitable organisation<br />

which supports 25,000 AIDS orphans<br />

in Tanzania by distributing clothes,<br />

school uniforms, books, stationery<br />

and mosquito nets to those in<br />

need, from primary school through<br />

to secondary, college, vocational<br />

training and university.<br />

The inspiration for the ‘t-shirt drive’<br />

came from Gill Girard, a member<br />

of the women’s organisation<br />

Inner Wheel, who suggested<br />

that anyone participating in the<br />

Marathon who didn’t need their<br />

t-shirt could donate it to a worthy<br />

cause. In partnership with Ms Girard,<br />

Canaccord were inspired to donate<br />

t-shirts left over from the Guernsey<br />

Marathon to Dr Susan Wilson,<br />

MBE from the Tumaini Fund, in a<br />

campaign dubbed #TsforTumaini.<br />

Management Guernsey, who<br />

presented the t-shirts to Dr Wilson<br />

on behalf of Canaccord said,<br />

‘Canaccord is proud to support and<br />

sponsor events and initiatives that<br />

support a “can do” ethos, such as the<br />

Guernsey Marathon, and we were<br />

thrilled to be able to help such a<br />

great cause in partnership with the<br />

Inner Wheel.’<br />

Dr Susan Wilson, MBE from the<br />

Tumaini Fund, commented: ‘Since<br />

its formation in 2003, the charity<br />

has established four offices in<br />

Kagera from which our social<br />

workers service the orphans in the<br />

surrounding parishes. Canaccord’s<br />

donation will enable us to return<br />

to our registered orphans with a<br />

welcome package of two sets of<br />

clothing, which enable the children<br />

to re-enter back into society, as<br />

well as other donated items such<br />

as school uniforms, books, pens/<br />

pencils and mosquito nets. We are<br />

incredibly grateful to Canaccord, the<br />

runners who donated their t-shirts<br />

and to Gill Girard from Inner Wheel<br />

for her t-shirt drive idea.’<br />
