LOCALS PHOTOGRAPH THE
ISLAND THEY LOVE FOR BARCLAYS’
MORTGAGES CAMPAIGN
Two amateur photographers’
works are now the centrepiece
to Barclays’ mortgage advertising
campaign in the Channel Islands.
Karen Langlois and Sid Ahlawat
were selected as the winners by
Barclays judging panel following
a competition to find an image
that represented the best of
both islands. Their photographs
are being used in advertising
Barclays’ mortgage products
across different media.
The brief was simple: take a
photograph of a favourite place
on Guernsey and Jersey and
share it on social media, with
the hashtag ‘#IslandILove.’ The
competition also ran in the
Isle of Man and a winner was
selected for each island from
several hundred entries.
‘By showcasing local
photography skills we have
also been able to share the
ZEDRA’S STAFF
COOK UP A
STORM FOR
CHILDREN IN
NEED
Staff at the Guernsey office
of trust and fiduciary service
Zedra has held a Masterchefstyle
competition as part of its
fundraising for BBC’s Children
in Need.
Two of the best cooks from the
company were pitted against
one another in the final round of
a cooking competition.
Charlotte Robert was chosen as
the winner after she completed
a series of challenges alongside
fellow finalist Liz Carre.
‘I am really happy to have
won and very surprised,’ said
Charlotte. ‘I didn't think I would
win against Liz, especially when
one of the challenges was to
cook with unknown ingredients.’
beauty of the islands. Using
our insight into life here, we’ve
designed a range of competitive
mortgages to help islanders
“own” a piece of the island they
love,’ said Barclays Head of
Mortgages Julian Woodcock.
Based around the popular
BBC1 programme, both Liz and
Charlotte had to complete a
series of challenges set by local
chef James Ferguson from Cook
with James Ferguson.
Staff had the chance to vote
on the winner and Managing
Director Julian Sharpe said the
competition showed part of
Zedra’s social side.
‘Everyone had a chance to
get involved and it has been
something that people have been
seeming to really enjoy,’ he said.
CANACCORD GENUITY
WEALTH MANAGEMENT
LENDS A HAND TO THE
TUMAINI FUND
Canaccord Genuity Wealth
Management, a three-time headline
sponsor of the Guernsey Marathon,
has donated 45 t-shirts gifted or
leftover from the event to the
Tumaini Fund.
The Tumaini Fund is a Guernseyregistered
charitable organisation
which supports 25,000 AIDS orphans
in Tanzania by distributing clothes,
school uniforms, books, stationery
and mosquito nets to those in
need, from primary school through
to secondary, college, vocational
training and university.
The inspiration for the ‘t-shirt drive’
came from Gill Girard, a member
of the women’s organisation
Inner Wheel, who suggested
that anyone participating in the
Marathon who didn’t need their
t-shirt could donate it to a worthy
cause. In partnership with Ms Girard,
Canaccord were inspired to donate
t-shirts left over from the Guernsey
Marathon to Dr Susan Wilson,
MBE from the Tumaini Fund, in a
campaign dubbed #TsforTumaini.
Andy Finch, Head of Wealth
Management Guernsey, who
presented the t-shirts to Dr Wilson
on behalf of Canaccord said,
‘Canaccord is proud to support and
sponsor events and initiatives that
support a “can do” ethos, such as the
Guernsey Marathon, and we were
thrilled to be able to help such a
great cause in partnership with the
Inner Wheel.’
Dr Susan Wilson, MBE from the
Tumaini Fund, commented: ‘Since
its formation in 2003, the charity
has established four offices in
Kagera from which our social
workers service the orphans in the
surrounding parishes. Canaccord’s
donation will enable us to return
to our registered orphans with a
welcome package of two sets of
clothing, which enable the children
to re-enter back into society, as
well as other donated items such
as school uniforms, books, pens/
pencils and mosquito nets. We are
incredibly grateful to Canaccord, the
runners who donated their t-shirts
and to Gill Girard from Inner Wheel
for her t-shirt drive idea.’
