THERE’S NO DENYING
THAT ROSS HAS BEEN CRITICAL IN THE
SUCCESS OF GUERNSEY FC, BUT HE
NOW FEELS THE CLUB IS IN A STRONG
POSITION TO PROGRESS WITHOUT HIM
There’s no denying that Ross
has been critical in the success
of Guernsey FC, but he now feels
the club is in a strong position
to progress without him and
there are others that will fill the
void he is leaving behind. ‘I think
the greatest achievement I have
from my time at Guernsey FC is
just having been involved from
day one and helping to grow
the club to a position where it is
sustainable, successful, and known
all over the world,’ he said. His
beloved Guernsey FC is a winner
for the island in terms of getting
its name out to the rest of the
world – especially in the football
world. ‘Guernsey FC has definitely
helped put Guernsey on the map.’
Ross takes with him fond
memories of playing for his team.
‘I’ll miss everyone at the club,
but mainly my fellow players,
and the coaching and medical
staff who have been like a family
to me for the best part of a
decade. It’s a comfort to know
that the club is here to stay, and
that the Guernsey FC family
will always be there for me.’
Guernsey FC was established to
offer the island’s elite footballers
the chance to progress and test
themselves on regular basis
outside of the Channel Islands and
currently plays in the Bostik South
Division at Step Four on English
football’s non-league pyramid
system. The club is owned and run
for the benefit of the community
in Guernsey and its plays its home
games at the Footes Lane Stadium.
Although Guernsey FC is a
relatively young club, the island
has a long history dating back to
1893 when the Guernsey FA was
established. Several of its players
have succeeded at the highest
levels of the English professional
game. These include including
Bill Spurdle (Manchester City),
Richard Le Flem (Nottingham
Forest & England U23), Ron Farmer
(Coventry City), Len Duquemin
(Tottenham Hotspur) and, more
famously, the club’s former
president Matt Le Tissier
(Southampton and England).
