It is usually along Guernsey’s coastal roads that you start to notice it. Like<br />
a rooftop craze, every other car seems to have sprouted a surfboard or<br />
two. Some have hastily tied straps flapping against them; others are piled<br />
up in vans ready to be used, and the shorter ones perched next to a proud<br />
owner on a reclined front seat. As the main routes to the popular surfing<br />
spots of the island, the coast roads are often buzzing with islanders trying<br />
to make their way to the sea as quickly as possible.<br />
But it wasn't always like this.<br />
